There's a lot of new-for-2017 features: new bridge, tuners, pickups, tall-narrow frets, bone nut, etc. Or maybe they didn't change anything and it's all marketing.
Either way, this bass kills.

There are noticeable differences. I've played the American Professionals and also own an American Standard. It's just a matter of how important the changes are to you. I think both the American Standard and American Professionals feel great, and have no issue with either of the frets used, and with an electric instrument (and even on acoustic instruments) bone vs. a hard synthetic material for the nut really is a moot point once you fret a note. I'm comfortable on both styles of frets, and both are great instruments! I'd say it's more about finding a good example of one, regardless of it's incarnation.

Agreed. I have an '09 American Standard Precision 5, also a great bass. But generally with Fender you do have to find that magical one out of however many.

Yeah, and what may be the Holy Grail bass for one person feels and sounds horrible to the next, right? And I wasn't necessarily implying that it's tough to find a good one, but you do come across duds now and then, that's for sure.

THEY are great basses though, I’ve played them a couple of times and if anything, their necks are very comfortable

I preferred it with the white/mint.
A nicer tort would probably look better - this particular one is almost completely red.
