NBD fender American vintage 63 precision

New bass day! Got this beautiful 2014 AV 63 P in a partial trade here in the classifieds. She weighs 8.5 lbs and sounds awesome.

The new 63 pickups are really nice, full spectrum with lots of character. I have the 58 pickup in my road worn P and this one does sound different.

I was a little worried about the neck being larger but it's actually very comfortable.

It's wearing the fender 9050L flats that the AV comes with.

Can't put it down.

I'm going to try rounds on it this week. I have some DR Sunbeams. The 9050L are nice. I didn't know what to expect with them and they're bright and clear.

My road worn P is not getting any play time for a while it seems. This bass is making me feel like I should have just gone straight to the AV line from the beginning despite the price.

I got one last week too in Sonic Blue.... I set mine up with LaBella 760 FL's and set the action and it is a Cadillac taking up both lanes now... smooth. I then had to trade for a minty 57 RI P to put some rounds on... gotta have one of each. Enjoy!

Good score, I've got the same one, color and everything. Is it really that much better than your Road-Worn? I've heard great things about them, sometimes I've wondered if I should have just bought that, and saved a bunch of cash.

Right now I like it better but I am admittedly in the honeymoon period.

I'll reserve judgment till I get around to putting the same strings on it. Currently the AV 63 P has fender 9050L steel flats, and the road worn precision has pyramid nickel flats. So if I play it and say "wow it's more bright" that'd be silly b/c one has steel strings and the other nickel.

The RW P is close but small things in the AV make it better for me. More meat on the neck, neck profile, better electronics, etc. I've always loved my rw p but this feels like a step up.

The RW is an excellent bass and I might not sell it. That being said I feel like I got my moneys worth on both the RW and the AV basses, and the AV is a little better which didn't surprise me.

You're certainly not the first person to make that comment since this bass was first introduced in 2013.

I have no idea why the '63 Vintage Precision Bass isn't Fender's best selling bass. Yes, it's a bit expensive but there's simply nothing that can compare to it.

Beautiful bass! I myself just traded my av '58 for an Oly white '63, and it's an outstanding bass! These are without a doubt the nicest Fenders I've ever played... So simple, elegant, and solid. I too am shocked they aren't Fender's best sellers. They are the essence of a classic pre CBS Fender, they really nailed it with this series!
