The nitro on those is extremely thin and sensitive on purpose. A bit like: you don't seem to like or buy roadworn or reliced, but we make it a bit easier for you to just do it by playing it. My Daphne Blue one from the 2013-2018 AVS series had hundreds of crackles in the finish - only visible in good light - after just leaving it for some weeks in a colder rehearsal space.
Some buyers complained after buying them new, that marks of the covers where already visible in the finish when removing them. It is hard for Fender to please everyone. But with these instruments they pleased me a lot.
Only thing wrong with it: after 30 years of producing the AVS and leaving it untouched, just adding the '75 Jazz Bass to it in 1999, they made it even better in 2013. But abondoned it just after 5 years to replace it with much more generic instruments called American Originals.
I'm sure they are great instruments, but lack the love to detail of the abandoned AVS instruments. IMO.
But with guitar and bass sales on an all time high: in germany 30% more electric guitars and 20% more acoustic guitars were sold during the pandemic than before. Who cares about our special wishes?
Esp. as bassists, our instruments are still included in the number for guitar sales in general.
