NBD-Fender Blizzard Pearl extravaganza

Just picked up this NOS 2011 American Standard P-bass in Blizzard Pearl. It’s the perfect match to my 2008 American Jazz, also in Blizzard Pearl. So now every time I play, it’s a choice between blonde and brunette! Rough life.

Put a set of TI flats on it (same as the Jazz), and bam, it was great right out of the box. Seriously, it was well setup at the factory, amazing. It sounds phenomenal. I need to research if I can switch the necks back and forth on these. I’ve always wanted to give that a try!

Anyway, fun days at my house.

Beautiful basses man! You have all the tones you could possibly want or need covered between them....

Yes, you can exchange their necks as they both have 20 frets. In fact many people do this if they want a slimmer, Jazz-neck nut spacing on their Precision. I actually do the opposite though, I prefer Precision sized necks on my Jazzes!

I forgot to mention that Blizzard Pearl is a discontinued color in the American Standard line, which added to the unanticipated fun and excitement of finding these contemporaneous "future classics" (a term that means nothing to me, as I'll likely be dead by then ha!)

I'd like to a install a vintage chrome pickup cover. I play with a thick pick near the neck with TI flats, and and a pickup cover would be the perfect palm rest.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about placement. I'm also considering adding a tugbar on the lower front for thumb style, which might complicate the placement geometry. I only get one chance to get it right, and I've had occasion in the past where it unfortunately was > 1.

You could do a trace of a Fender '62 reissue pickguard, which comes with the pickup cover holes stock. Trace the location of the pickup route and the cover holes and you should be able to line it up.

I have a '62 guard, but don't have access to a scanner until Monday.

It's a creamy translucent pearl, with blended hints of pearl/silver throughout. It's a very subtle, yet dimensional, effect. Not much white - it's more blended/low contrast. I've had a lot of finishes, and I'm quite pleased and the consistent quality on both instruments.

Also, there's a 60th Anniversary badge on the neckplate, I'll post a pic. I know there have been a number of conversations about the 2011 badging, and this may answer a couple of questions.

I haven't tried the Wedgie, but it looks fascinating! I'm a pick freak, and that would be a good addition. How does it play?

My Precision has the 60th anniversary neck plate...sure beats a plain one.
The Wedgie pick has a very finger-like sound...I use tapewounds and flats...but I can get pretty aggressive with it. The thumb grip is nice...I can't remember ever dropping one...and they last for a long, long time. I've been using the same one for over a year.

The two Deluxe P basses I've had my hands on were actually more like a vintage white, creamy yellow. I thought that perhaps the color turns after so many years.
I wound up buying an FSR Jazz bass after waiting for just the right Deluxe P...changed out the stock pickups for Fender Super 55s and added an Audere JZ3 preamp. A month later I bought my Precision. Never owned a Fender until now.
