NBD: Fender Custom Shop Jazz

Sweetwater had one in stock over a year ago, but it sold before I had a chance to buy it. So, I plugged in my e-mail address to be notified automatically when the next one came in. After about six months, I just figured they would never get another one in. Then, a week ago, out of the blue, I get an automatic e-mail from SW informing me that they now have one in stock. I took one look at the pics, and I said "that's mine". I bought it right then and there. It was probably on their website for no more than an hour.

That's awesome! Guess it was meant to be; it looks great, congrats on your find. I've been GASing for a transparent blue Jazz since I saw a transparent blue P/J on the Fender Japan site.

Thanks! Yeah, trans blue sho is purdy! Especially on an ash body with that grain. And the birdeye neck is even better looking in person than in the pics. This one's a keeper!

I was hoping you weren't going to say that, because I was set on convincing you to sell it to me if you ever needed to "thin the herd." :ninja:

:D

LOL! (laughing at myself). If you only knew. I have been playing for 40 years, and over that time, I have bought and sold more bass gear than imaginable. It's almost embarrasing! Every time I get another bass or amp, and I say to my wife "this is it", she just smiles and rolls her eyes because she knows me all too well! I have a weird habit of buying new stuff just to have it for a while, and then I turn around and sell it. It makes no sense.

But, this new blue CS Jazz, well, this is it!!! :D

'60s spacing?

Marchone, there is something different about the pickup locations with these Fender Custom Shop Jazzes (as of today I now own two of them).

Check this out:

The bridge pickup is in the 60's position. No question about that. BUT! The neck pickup is, well, I'm not sure how to describe it. Here's why I say that. For my orange transparent CS Jazz that came with a solid white pickguard, I thought it would be cool to swap out that pickguard with a white pearl one to match the white pearl block inlays (rosewood fretboard). So I ordered a genuine Fender Jazz pickguard in white pearl, and lo and behold, when I went to place it on the bass, the hole in the pickguard for the neck pickup did not line up with the neck pickup! Not even close! So I just left the solid white pickguard on. Weird!

That's really interesting. It's the first time I heard of that.

Congrats on your new bass. I do like that color. Looks really nice.

I do know what you mean about the neck.

I bought a 2011 FCS Custom Classic Special Jazz V from Sweetwater at the very end of December 2011. Great people to work with. Mine also has the birds eye maple neck, black pearl inlays and black neck binding. Stunning to look at. I get lots of compliments on it.
By the way, mine is a Violin Burst finish. I get lots of compliments on that as well.

I can't seem to take a picture that shows how it really looks either. Gets frustrating, don't it.

I'm definitely heading in that direction...last night someone told me they liked my bass and my response was "thanks...I'm already looking at getting another one."
