This bass has been hanging on the wall of this particular store for years. It's got the damage from slap happy teenagers to prove it. I went in today and they dropped the price significantly. I make an offer and the dude says it's already too low. I go back later and I get another guy who's willing to make a deal so the bass came home with me. It has the quality I expect from Fender Japan. Powerful pickups with lots of variation. It's heavy though. Has to be at least 12 pounds but there's so much tone. Damn fine bass.

You're going to have an incredible time with this bass. I've been playing bass for ~10 years now and this is easily the best bass I have ever laid my hands on. I've been able to use it for everything from rock to jazz to funk and R&B. Congratulations on the purchase!

Dumb question: if I have the switch on passive, I can't leave it plugged in, right? It'll still kill the battery?

I've had my MM jazz for 9 years now, it was dropped on a marble floor with only a chip taken out of the paint, it had a rat killed on it (don't ask)
so it's tough... sounds great too although the shielding for the electronics is lousy...
You will not drain the battery when the preamp is turned off.
Enjoy your new bass!

Both MIJ geddy's I had were outstanding (still have the body of one of them, couldn't get used to the thin neck). I played a MM and it was outstanding as well. Great score! The MIJ stuff was just as good as any MIA fenders (hint, that's why no more MIJ. They were too good and fender MIA probably felt too much competition ;) ). The action is always good as well as the fit and finish. Really sad to see the MIJ stuff go away.

Nice bass, but 12 lbs. is extremely heavy.

The quality and tone won't mean anything if 12 lbs feels uncomfortable around your neck. Anyway, I wish you good luck with your new bass.

The shielding seems fine on mine. I haven't played it out yet but it's quieter in my apartment than other basses have been.

Are you sure about the battery? I've always heard that even with the active/passive switch the battery will die if I leave it plugged in.
