NBD Fender Mod Shop Jazz

Excellent, congrats! Now that the deed is done, what do you think of the Mod Shop experience? If you could rewind time to 37 days ago, would you order one through the Mod Shop again?

I ask because I've ALMOST pulled the trigger on a mod shop jazz on three separate occasions...mainly because of the color combos that I couldn't find with a stock purchase.

I had them "built" and in the shopping cart, but never finalized the transaction; primarily because I saw only saw 4 string options and wanted a fiver.
Thanks man. I'm happy with the bass and the experience. As you know there are a few options you could go with in building one. I think for the price you can't go wrong.

The C to D neck is awesome and the noiseless pickups are booming.

Not sure why they dont offer a 5 string option.

I wish the "mod shop" was still the "design experience." They had more options back then.

But--cool bass!! Congrats!! :D
Not the American Design Experience I remember... everybody griped about having too few options back then.

They never had as many colors as they do now. The Mod Shop color options are now up to 32 with the addition of Autumn Blaze. They did remove some of the vintage style hardware options they had. They have two neck profiles in maple or rosewood fretboards and six pickup choices for the Jazz.

Cool, thanks. Glad to hear the noiseless pickups don't disappoint. I can appreciate the fact that they are constantly adding color options. The palette has definitely expanded from this time last year.

They'll really be onto something if they offer matching color headstocks, P/J configs, active/passive configs, and 5 string options. While we're at it, they should also throw in LED fret markers and unlined fretless fingerboard options. I digress...this moment isn't about me. :) Happy NBD!!

Yeah looks like more colors now--and I dig that Autumn Blaze--really cool. I was thinking more about the parts, how you could order a Jazz neck on a P-bass or choose between American Standard or AVRI parts. I liked that. Don't think you still can however under the current system.

It was cool that you could choose between modern and vintage hardware. I don't remember whether you could've subbed a Jazz neck on a P bass. They have only 3 neck profiles for the P bass and I noticed that if you choose the '60 original neck, you do get vintage tuners! Still stuck with the modern bridge though.

Sorry, there's actually 4 neck profiles for the Jazz Bass. Not to mention Alder or Ash body depending on finish.

This exact combo is one of the ones I almost got last year. I'm digging the Autumn Blaze Metallic now and the Skyburst Metallic with Aged White Pearl and pearloid inlays on the 70s Jazz neck.

I still don't get it. An "A" vibrates at 440 HZ regardless of how the instrument is tuned.
Different tuning moves the "A" from one fret to another.
So I don’t understand what you mean, “Heavier Sound”.

Pickup locations impose a comb filter on the sound of any bass. But (Acoustical Physicist chiming in) it’s a wavength filter - every string on a bass has a different filter frequency wise. The note the open string is tuned to determines the velocity of propagation on the string, and therefore...where the peaks and dips occur in frequency.

Soooo... retune the string, and the sound does change. I have a bass tuned in D standard. It does sound heavier. Try it, you’ll get it
