After weeks of searching for a nice backup bass for my Warwick Corvette $$ I have finally found it.
My first impression is very favorable. The Jag weighs 10 pounds on the bathroom scale. The neck has a thick and heavy finish that will take some getting used to for me (I am used to my Warwick's unfinished feel). The neck also has a great shape. From what I can tell it is a typical jazz c shape. I really like how much less tiring it is to play for me when compared to my Warwick's largish neck. Also, I have not had any problems with neck dive, which was a real concern of mine.
This is my first PJ setup, and so far I am really loving it. I am really impressed by how responsive it is to my playing. I didn't expect a passive bass to be so versatile. Having never owned a Jazz or P bass, it is really fun experimenting with those classic sounds.
I will be in the studio this weekend working on my band's demo, so I should be able to get a good idea as to how it sits in my band's mix. After that I will be happy to fire up Garage Band and record a few sound samples if anyone is curious. If you have any questions of course I will be happy to answer them.

I just got a chance to play one of these the other day. And I'll admit that I'm a bit of a snob and that Jaguars never really lit my fire, but something about this bass called my name.
When I plugged it in, it BLEW MY MIND! Sounded and played phenomenally. I really would love to have one, it's a fantastic bass.

If the super-glossy finish on the neck bugs you, just rub it with some 0000 Steel Wool (or a Scotch Brite pad) and make it more satin. You can always polish it back to gloss if you want.

Good score on the bass, man! Enjoy it.

Last weekend I got to record the remaining bass 2 tracks for my band's 3 song demo. The first track was recorded a week prior on my Warwick $$. My recording setup is bass>>DarkGlass b3k(overdrive)>>MarkBass. Our producer then just adds a small amount of compression. For our scratch tracks I decided to use the Jaguar as it is easier to play, and the sound would be deleted anyways. When it came time to record the bass parts my producer wanted to hear how this new bass sounded. After plugging in and playing with the EQ he was blown away and requested that I record with it instead of the Warwick. While the Warwick has a fantastic tone, for our style of music Jag sounds incredible. It has a very growly and aggressive tone with my finger style. For reference our music is progressive/melodic metal. We are closer to Coheed and Cambria, Opeth, and Iron Maiden, then say Pantera and Carcass.
When the demos are mixed I will be sure to post them. I will also see about recording a few sound demos tomorrow on my day off.

I have one the "original" 2007 MIJ Fender Jaguars with the preamp. It has two "J" style pups in it. One of the things that attracted me to the bass was the preamp. Does the "Modern Player" have a preamp in it? It doesn't look like it.

I modded my Jag a little. The way it came wired from the factory you couldn't independently control the volume of each pup. I had a switch and a pot added so that when the pickups are in parallel each pup has volume control. In series, the pups are controlled by a master volume. Also, a phase switch was added and the jack was moved to the side. The bass was also shielded.
