Just picked this up this morning. I was originally going to order the sunburst model, but decided on the blonde at the last moment. I'm still debating, and may exchange it in the future.
But when I picked it up, I couldn't believe how light it was. It's probably the lightest Fender I have ever held. I weighed it when I came home, and my scale says 7.5 pounds. The scale only works in .5 increments, so it could be less than that.

It plays really nice, and the pickups sound great. It does have the raised A pole pieces, which I had heard the new 58 models did not have this.
Also, the neck plate looks different than the others I have seen on Sweetwater's website. Mine says Special Edition at the bottom, and in the middle of the olive branches, says "1st 46".
I can't figure out what that means. Anyone know?

I currently own a real 1959 P, as well as 2 real 1960 P's. This reissue is contoured more like the actual 50s basses. The headstock is smaller than the old 57RI's, and is period correct without the hs strap button. Also, another cool feature is the laquered pickguard. I tried to show a picture of this below.
The neck is thicker front to back than the 57RI's, which were wide and flat. This neck feels just like one of my 1960 Ps.

The bass came with some nice "case candy". An old manual, and strap along with a pack of flats.

I plan to string this up with some TI flats today, and play it at a gig tomorrow. I'll give my review tomorrow night :bassist:

Nice. I love my blonde 57ri. Your experience sounds like mine. I wasn't even looking for a bass then one day it just jumped off the wall at me. Light, resonant, punchy, amazing. What's the lacquered pickguard about? Is that an "upgrade" from the old avri series?

I need another raised pole pickup for my other p-bass. Anyone know where I can get one?

AFAIK the first 46 of each model in the new AVRI series (in honor of 1946) received a special edition neck plate. That includes the guitars and apparently the basses.

That's a beautiful bass! Congrats!
