I pickup up my 58 (blonde) yesterday, and it's also very light. I had them weight it at the store, and mine is around 7.5 with the covers on. I'm totally in love with this bass! It plays like a dream, sounds incredible, and in my opinion looks absolutely stunning. I sold my limited edition custom shop 64 Jazz bass to buy this base and I have never been happier! The jazz bass was a wonderful instrument, but i'm much more comfortable on the precision bass, and it has that sound that I'm after. From everything I'm reading, and hearing about these basses light weight seems to be the norm. If you can find a store that carries them I highly suggest checking these instruments out.

Went to the Atlanta Bass Gallery a couple weeks ago to see if they had anything interesting. Of course they did, and a black AV '58 Precision identical to this one followed me home. Actually it was a 2 for 1 trade, no cash outlay on my end.

It sounds amazing with the set of worn-in set of TI flats that are on it now. It's very light and has the most comfortable neck profile of any 1.75" nut Precision I've ever played, and I've played dozens. The neck is noticeably thinner (yes, thinner) front-to-back than my Fullerton AVRI '57, two later '57 AVRI's and a MIM 50's Classic '57 I used to have. The pickups are very good as well but not quite as defined as the Lollars on my "number one". I love gold guard P's and overall I'm very pleased.

As D Bopp mentioned earlier, the fit and finish are equal to Custom Shop quality and this one could probably pass for Masterbuilt.

Nice bass WoodyJ! I really love mine too.
I put the flat wound strings that came with the bass on this morning, and played at a jam this afternoon for a few hours.. This bass is fantastic, and I think Fender has finally given us what many have asked for at a fair price. I sold my CS 64 J to get bass, and I'd do again in a New York second!
Not knocking the J-bass at all, but this bass fits me as a player for what I play way better. Good luck with yours, and congratulations!
