Congratulations on your beautiful bass. I'm considering buying a 63 reissue. I'm in doubt between this and a real early 70s one.

How does the reissue compare soundwise to your 59? My problem with vintage reissues has always been that they may be built to vintage specs, but never manage to have the same big, warm, resonant sound as a real vintage precision. What's your experience with comaring the real deal to the reissue?

My early P basses sound more woody and thuddy. The laquer has worn off and they aren't as bright as the newer ones. But I am really digging the tone on the new 58 RI. I just put a set of TI flats on it, so I'll have a better idea of the tone after they die down a little.

Thanks, that was what I expected. I even hear this "newer" sound in custom shop basses. I wonder if they wil sound more like the vintage ones after 30-40 years, because on the old recordings where the late 50s early 60s basses where new, the late 50s, early 60s basses allready had that thuddy woody tone...

I live in Europe and I never buy a bass that I haven't played before. I'm also looking for a rosewood fb bass and mocha brown is one of the only colours I really don't like.

Yes it is. I prefer them a little more worn in. This set is pretty new.

i'm a little hesitant to pay the extra dough for the TI's, but your video is certainly swaying my decision. the tone you're getting is pretty sweet.

Wow. Great bass!! The lacquered pickguard is a very nice touch.

I don't think that's lacquer. It looks like plastic to me. My new one came with a layer of plastic over the pickguard too.

That's true. If you look back at my pictures from the first page you can see with the pickup cover off and is a little bit of a tear in the plastic. But I don't think it's supposed to come off.

The spec sheet on the 58's say its a gold anodized PG with Lacquer finish. I get mine Tuesday so we'll see. Yours looks great.

Mostly, more accurate dimensions and appearance, but different (rewound) pups as well. Actual bone nut, better nitro paint, etc. Everything is different from previous reissues, but it's still an attempt to recreate the original.

The new one really does feel like a masterbuilt custom shop. I've probably owned 8 or 9 different 57 and 62 ris. This one is worth the extra dollars.
