The moment I met my Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass V As some have read here, I have found (non-boutique) 5-string P-basses hard to come by. Craigslist flakiness cost me a white one; last-minute eBay shenanigans cost me a red one; but Reverb finally came through! I wouldn’t have gone sunburst-and-tortoiseshell if I could afford to be picky, but I pulled the trigger as soon as I saw it (figuring ‘twas Father’s Day Eve and I deserved it!), and I don’t regret it. It might turn black-with-black-guard some day, as the wood under the burst doesn’t look extraordinary, but I finally have this sound and feel in a five and I love it. Stay tuned for mods, though, haha.
Dreamy rig! I admire your taste in gear. Here’s the rig that (oddly enough) finally turned me into a P-bass person, which should explain a bit.
295 USD plus shipping, basically new, decent gig bag included. I think I got my money’s worth and then some. I am surprised to hear anybody else saw this one—I didn’t let it stay on there long!
I'm looking to either get a C.A.R, or a neglected one that I can refin in tangerine metal flake with a black guard.
IF I were to ever own a P5, it’d have a black body, white or charcoal pearloid pick guard, and a maple board. But your sunburst looks mighty fine... especially with the maple board. Magnifique.
I haven't seen a black one of these, but mine might end up that way. I love the black-and-maple look, and it would match this pair: I will probably eventually replace the pickup, pots, bridge, and tuning machines on this thing if I'm still this happy with it a while from now, but as they're all better than expected, we'll see.
Candy Apple Red. The VPMV came in: Sunburst, CAR,Oly White that it. Vintage Modified Precision Bass® V | Squier Electric Basses
Thanks for the clarification. Turns out I took a shot at each color, haha. I think of the three, I would go with the white if I had my choice. Whatever color, I'm considering mirror pickguard and chrome Lace Aluma-P down the line, bwahaha.
My ATK305 used to be black. I had is painted with House Of Colors automotive paint almost 20 years ago. It’s now retired. As far as I know, Fender only offers the combo on the Professional series.
Hi Monterey 5ers rule! And your Squier is a great modding platform! This is by far the best colour combination to get rid off! (not bashing, I am just no sunburst, tort and flats guy ) Happy NBD!!! may the bass be with you Wise(b)ass
Congratulations on the new bass! I too am riding that NBD high from a few days ago. Mine is black and maple, and I just put a black guard on it so I've ticked that box - but it's no fiver! Excellent bass, sir. Enjoy it!
Ah, so you got the red one! It stings less to know you were on the hunt for a while yourself, and also because I got this one, haha. The red would have been extra fun because of this: ... but I have really bonded with this one. I forget why, but a friend's dad's 1972 P-bass (sunburst/tortoiseshell/maple, though it may have had a black pickguard at the time) came to live with me for a while as a teenager, and this one reminds me A LOT of that one, which is a good thing.
Oh, and a closer look suggests you didn't scoop me on eBay, unless you swapped out decals and string trees as soon as you got it.
