After only playing jazz basses, I finally broke down and bought a p bass. I found this one for a steal and couldn't pass it up. Let me know what you think.

i'd be curious about what you think!
It's different. Since coming from thin jazz necks and a way different sound its interesting. I find myself just playing and not worrying about preamp settings and what pickup I'm on. That's just first impressions though. Although I will say gloss necks aren't my thing but its tolerable

congrats on your new instrument!
I like every NBD I see, even when somebody gets a bass that got away from me ;)

@Kallen Something tells me you’re going to like it …

Very classy! Can't go wrong with Squier (though I'm biased...). Looks similar to the 5 string P Hozier's bassist has played live. My first bass just over 5 years ago was a Chinese P bass, it's great to play.

You don't have yours anymore?

What changes did you make to it and what would you recommend?
Oh, I've still got mine, and it's not going anywhere. I just tried to get a white one (craigslist guy flaked and sold it to somebody else after we agreed to a sale) ... and a candy apple red one (got outbid in the last second on eBay) ... before I finally decided I could live with sunburst.

I thought about refinishing it, but when I swapped the tortoiseshell guard for black, I decided not only that I liked the burst, but that it was now "my thing." I've even got a Fender four-string to match now.

As you can see, I also swapped out the stock bridge for a Hipshot Kicka$s (the stock Fender bridge works on four-strings, but I found string changes exceedingly difficult on this five-string), and the stock pickup for a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound (the stock one might have been a lemon, way too bright with very little low end). I've since swapped out the pickup again for an M&V Atlas, but might go back to this one (they're both really good to my ear), who knows, haha ... and now I'm getting new guards made for both in black/dayglo orange/black, haha some more.

A lot of people are really happy with theirs stock. I think the white guard looks good on candy apple red and the white, but tort has never been my thing. I would recommend changing out that bridge unless you're one of those people who leaves strings on for years.

Whoever owned this before actually put a little string extender for the B string so the tension is better than without it I imagine, but I most likely will replace it. Did the holes line up for you?
Yes; Hipshot makes a version specifically for the Squiers, so make sure you get that one if you go that route for a bridge.

A lot of players seem to like that stealth string retainer on their Fender five-strings. I haven't really looked into it for myself, as my low string mostly behaves as it should (that was true even with the stock bridge, other than when changing strings).
