NBD - G&L Content

This morning I received my G&L L-1000 series 750 from Sweetwater. A week ago I ordered an Ibanez 1605day ASK, and returned it, it just wasn't for me.

Once I unboxed the G&L I saw it need a quick trussrod tweak and then I plugged in for a few minutes.

Intial impressions:

1) MFD humbucker will have no problem cutting through a mix
2) Lots of tones with just 1 pickup, 2 tone controls, and the coil switch
3) the MFD humbucker is a little noisy.
4) Build quality looks excellent although I might need to shim the neck
5) D'addario nickel xl's will probably go away. Not sure what to throw on next. At my disposal I have SIT Foundations, DR Pure Blues, Labella Nickel RX, GHS Roundcore bass Boomers, and LaBella LTF.

Maybe? I got a G&L CLF L1000 in January and don't notice any hum when the toggle switch is in the humbucking position (all the way up), but, as Low End Lobster demonstrated in his 3 L1000 YouTube videos, there will be some hum in the single coil and OMG modes.

if you asking me, it probably doesn't need a lot of "What's Next.".. other than playing the crap out of it!! Enjoy and Congrats.

Yeah there's a little, was way more present through my little gk mb-200 than the Mesa d800 + and Aguilar ag700.

That is awesome since you mentioned noise reservations about the PU.

You know, I've been a bassist for a long time, and I've never seen one of these in the wild. In fact, in 50years + I've only worked with one musician that played a G&L product, a guitar player that played their version of a Strat. not as nice as my 93 Fender strat, but a solid instrument just the same. I've seen one used G&L bass, the Jazz equivalent, for sale at a SamAsh. They need to up their marketing game.

I agree. I'll be buying more of them. I've had this bass for 1 hour and feel 100% at home. I've also play their lb-100 and jb-5 and both are awesome. I think their sales have taken off sense partnering with sweetwater as well.

'That is a good thing, but there are some old farts out there (not mentioning any names) that refuse to buy an instrument they haven't had their hands on first. Having them is stores so a player can A-B test them for some (again not mentioning any, ahem, names) is the preferred method of evaluation.

For instance you own Bass A and you want a second bass, but not sure about if you want bass B, C, or D. Without them in a store, it is a very awkward process via the internet.

Deciding a purchase based on an internet video or just because you saw a hero with one is even more of a crap shoot.

JMO
