NBD - G&L LB-100

That is just righteous. Love it (well, them). I have a Ruby Red Metallic M-2500, and that's probably my favorite G&L finish, though it's tough to choose because they're all so great. The tort guard over Ruby Red was an inspired choice, and the matching headstock takes it all the way. (Wish my M-2500 had one -- otherwise it's perfect.)

How do you like the #12 neck v. the #8? Due to finger issues I've sworn off anything but silky playing J necks, but I'm thinking a G&L #12 with the 12" radius might not be much different.

Thanks! As for the neck, I only notice it on the first 3 frets. And I actually appreciate the "extra room" on the first fret because my fingers always feel a bit cramped on the J neck. But the jury is still out as to which I prefer overall.

Congratulations on a great looking bass. I went for the Empress body with a #8 neck.I got Shoreline Gold with a matching headstock and a Tort guard (was there ever a question?). Absolutely love the bass, my first G&L. Hmm, you're in Blacksburg, VA? Isn't that the location of a certain music store? I don't know if I could live that close to Mr Greg and his great deals, I certainly would have a few more G&Ls in the collection.

Yeah, I live about .5 miles from Rocket. I drive past every day.

They rock and it's great to be able to buy local. Shocking I don't have like 8 basses (I have bought 2 from them).

I'm pretty sure I'm the reason Greg hasn't finished the showroom there. He must know that if he does finish, he will never get me to leave.

btw - I saw your bass (or its twin) on the G&L page and loved it.

Congrats on that beautiful bass!! I love the color. The finishes on recent G&Ls seem to be a cut above. I just got my LB-100 (CAR) about a month ago, and since then, my Am Std Jazz and MTD have been collecting dust. I may feel different once the honeymoon is over, but for now, I can't put it down!! If I lived that close to Rocket, I would be in big trouble.

Here is a much better pic from Greg at Rocket!

Super nice, my LB-100 is 8.8 lbs with the #8 neck so I'm a little surprised you are that heavy. Excellent bass & color combo. How do you like the stock strings BTW? I wasn't a fan

Thanks!

Yeah, these usually seem to run around 9-9.2. Guess I got lucky (extra bass!)!

I don't love the stock strings but don't hate them either. I never like brand new strings so I'll wait a bit to see how they wear. What strings did you go for?

GHS precision flats & they are money... haven't moved back to nickels on this yet as I play 5s exclusively. It will probably be Slinkies as I'm familiar with them

Those GHS strings are called "Precision" flats for a reason. They are phenomenal on P-basses IMO.

I think G&L uses D'Addario strings. I'm not crazy about them and never stick with them, but they did record exceptionally well with my G&L JB.

Seriously WET-DREAM image here, and speaking of flatwounds is the proper set of GHS Precision flats are they the set M3050 set that are used on LB-100 instruments.
I'm going to order a LB-100 very soon and I want to put GHS Precision flats on, now I'm just trying to decide between either black on alder, w/ tort guard, quartersawn #12 maple neck & fingerboard, or Graphite metallic w/3 ply black pickguard, quartersawn #12 maple neck & fingerboard or now that this pic of the Ruby metallic finish is tempting also.
Hard decision.

the images I've seen of the graphite metallic knock my socks off, but I can't recall anyone on TB actually posting a new acquisition with that finish.
it's so ultra machine modern and elegant -- but don't let my wanderings sway any decision you have to live with.
