If I may be so bold, I would try the Pure Blues. I have them on my Yamaha; it came with the same strings yours did and I almost didn't keep it. I'm glad I did.

Just put some DR pure blues in it. Absolutely love it!

That is a nice JB!
FWIW I like DR HiBeams on my active basses but tried DR Pure Blues on my G&L LB-100 and absolutely love it. Would do the same if I scored a JB.

So here it is. "Custom" G&L Deluxe Fullerton JB. I pretty much ordered the JB you'll see online, except I wanted the block inlays, hence making it custom.
I read often on here the horrors of custom orders, especially post covid.
They originally said it would take 3 months longer than just ordering the stock bass. I figured, what the hell. Why not.
I got a call one day saying the date was even pushed back another two months. I wasn't surprised after reading everyone's stories on here. Then out of nowhere I get a call last week saying my bass came in and is shipping. So ends up my bass came in on the original time frame. That was a very nice surprise.

So let's get to the specs and feel. I own several different fender JBs. This is the first G&L JB I've ever played.
The quality is there. This is one of the finest feeling basses I've played. The satin neck is absolutely stellar. Fretwork is great. I really dig the G&L bridges too. That sustain is really nice! Nitro finish also on it.
Since it all can't be roses the ONLY complaint I have is the strings it came with. It came with d'addario exl170 45-100. I'll be switching those out tomorrow. I wasn't a fan of the tone of them at all, but that's an easy fix.

1. Did you order yours through Sweetwater? I know you said the lead time was ultimately shorter than they said, but my Sweetwater rep is saying the lead time is up to 1 year! What was the original estimate you were given?
2. Just followed up with my sales rep recently and he says he hasn't heard back about a price quote yet. Do you happen to know how much the quote would be for a 4-string option order JB with no premium/"extra" options?

P.S. I always thought GHS Boomers was the quintessential jazz bass string (mainly because my two favorite jazz players use them) so if you ultimately want to change out the Pure Blues you should try those! Good bite and might tame the midrange just a little.

The price just really depends on options. The only thing I can say is use the models they have online as a "base price". Each option is probably more than you'd expect also.
I posted a thread months ago about this actually. It helped me decide on going option order vs what's typically offered. In the end, I just got exactly what I wanted and 0 regrets.
Also, yeah I went through sweetwater. For me it was a painless process. Hope you have the same if you end up ordering.

Seems like lead times have increased a lot since then! I am hoping that it's a gross overestimate as my rep did say "up to"...

The only 3 things I am doing different from the standard USA JB found on Sweetwater are an ebony fretboard (the rosewood looks very light - almost like Pau Ferro - in most pics... is it actually that light?), swamp ash body, and andromeda finish with black pickguard. Hoping and thinking it can't be more than around $300 more than the $1499 list price.

And Sweetwater has the best customer service on the planet IME. I have no doubt the process will work out well with them.

Wow... was not expecting that. Just bursted my bubble . On the bright side, I don't know how many of those options are actually extra compared to the "standard" option. I know the finish/PG is a standard option so that's a plus.

That was my logic too, I know some fretboard come with pearl block inlays.
Also, forgot to mention the pics are accurate. It is the lightest rosewood fretboard I have
