NBD G&L

Well what a good experience I had with this one.
So here it is. "Custom" G&L Deluxe Fullerton JB. I pretty much ordered the JB you'll see online, except I wanted the block inlays, hence making it custom.
I read often on here the horrors of custom orders, especially post covid.
They originally said it would take 3 months longer than just ordering the stock bass. I figured, what the hell. Why not.
I got a call one day saying the date was even pushed back another two months. I wasn't surprised after reading everyone's stories on here. Then out of nowhere I get a call last week saying my bass came in and is shipping. So ends up my bass came in on the original time frame. That was a very nice surprise.

So let's get to the specs and feel. I own several different fender JBs. This is the first G&L JB I've ever played.
The quality is there. This is one of the finest feeling basses I've played. The satin neck is absolutely stellar. Fretwork is great. I really dig the G&L bridges too. That sustain is really nice! Nitro finish also on it.
Since it all can't be roses the ONLY complaint I have is the strings it came with. It came with d'addario exl170 45-100. I'll be switching those out tomorrow. I wasn't a fan of the tone of them at all, but that's an easy fix.

It’s a beauty. Does it have Seventies or Sixties spacing at the bridge?

Cool! Out of curiosity, since I'm always trying other strings, what strings would you choose for it (or for all of your basses, for that matter)?
I'm still experimenting myself with strings. I have different sets on different jazz basses. I'm debating either rotosound 66's, DR Hi Beams (heavy guage), or DR Pure Blues (heavy guage). I'm even debating using the nickel fenders (medium guage). Those came on my 20th anniversary fender jazz and that bass still sounds amazing.

Nice bass!
I dig the profile pic too. Reminds me of the streetpunk/ Oi scene I was in, in Atlanta around '96-97

Congrats.

But if it is an Option Order, it is, by definition, not a Fullerton Deluxe. And if it has the nitro finish, it is a Custom Shop instrument...also not a Fullerton Deluxe. Not sure how you could order a G&L Custom Shop instrument, which much have cost $3,000, without even knowing what it's called.
