NBD Ibanez artcore agb200

Just got this in a trade. It's my first venture into hollow body basses:

Seems to be in pretty good shape, save for the missing truss rod cover and peeling leather in the thumb rest.

Now to shop for strings. Not sure if I want flats or rounds...

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Nice bass. The Ibanez Artcore basses are good deals and underrated. I had a first gen (single pickup, 34" scale) for a long time that I put a Jack Cassady pup and electronics into. Very good bass but wasn't getting played so out it went.

Thanks for the info! It's funny because both are undesirable to me. I have never had a bass with a thumb rest and I found it in the way. The PG just seems out of place. Oh the joys of used gear!
I kind of like the look of the guard but if you don't like them I'd go ahead and remove them both. If necessary you can just darken the hole with a furniture touchup marker. Lots of guys removed the pick guards from their LP-ish and other Gibson-inspired hollowobodies over the years. No big deal at all.

I have a agb140 i plucked off Craigslist not too long ago and boy do I like this better! Mine came with nylons on it as well, but only 3 of them. I replaced with some rounds I had laying around. Still debating on strings myself. Might go flats.

Edit:auto correct makes it sound like I'm having a medical issue when I comment on this site. All fixed.

After some light searching I'm wondering if the pickguard was added by a previous owner. I don't see many of them with a pickguard and it doesn't really match the rest of the instrument.

Anyone have some ideas on that?

Replace with a nice pearl pg to match the tuners. I know the tuners are not pearl but pearl is classy for a classy bass. Hmm now I’m thinking of putting one on my 205
