I had been looking for something to "cure" my occasional desire to play 6 string and this hit the spot.
The bass is light and extremely comfortable to play.
I was impressed by the neck profile and playability.
I swapped out the pre amp for an Aguilar 2 band and the C string sounds fuller and overall the bass sounds more "even" from string to string.
The other plan I may do is have the bridge recut to widen the spacing at the nut.

I am fighting the temptation to upgrade the pups, its still a $257.00 bass.
After owning Fodera,Fender,Prat, Performance, Atelier Z, Tobias, Ken Smith, Yamaha and Xotic this is really all the 6 I need.

Still have the GIO?
I just bought the same GIO for the same reasons you did. I needed a six stringer to fiddle around with.
I too love the weight, and find the neck profile very nice.
However, as others before me, I've noticed that the B-string isn't being as loud as the other strings. Was this completely cured with the new preamp? Or should the PU be changed as well?

I actually like the 22 frets and the quirkiness of this cheap bass, therefore I'm reluctant to change for a higher series like the SR306 or even 506, even though that would make sense in so many ways.
But when starting to upgrade this cheap budget bass, how limiting will body and neck be?
