NBD - Ibanez Iceman content

Hey all. So I had the opportunity to scoop an Ibanez Iceman for a song off of Facebook marketplace. I’ve ALWAYS wanted one of these. But I wasn’t sure about the tone or the feel. But for what I got it for, it was worth the gamble, and any one of you would have done the same!

After I took the Pokémon stickers off and changed the strings, I noticed this bass actually kicks ass. It’s got a great tone! No fret ware, and the neck is straight as an arrow. It was missing the truss rod cover, but I found one on eBay in 2 seconds.

Now, for some fun. I’m in an original band that likes to cheese it up and wear fun jackets, shoes, flash it up because we have fun! We’re good time rock guys and we’re not boring. So, I thought, let me get around 2,600 rhinestones and see what happens. So I give you the REAL ICEMAN!

That looks great!

I remember starting to roll my eyes when I got to the Bass Player Magazine review of these when they first came out. To my surprise, they LOVED that bass. They said it was a sleeper. They loved the tone and feel. (Wish I could remember what month/year.)

The bling looks amazing. Did it add much weigh?

Don't like the design and from audio reviews - don't like the sound, too. Of course this is 50/50 - just my own opinion.

If it's not your cup of tea -- why say anything at all? The OP didn't ask for opinions, he merely wanted to share his acquisition. I had one of these many moons ago and found it be a great bass. Oh, yeah I noticed you got a Gary Willis bass in your avatar. That too is a great bass that not too many people cared for...

Always loved the shape. Had a six string back in the day with full size humbuckers.

Yes! I had an ivory-white Iceman guitar at some point in the 90s myself. Loved it.

OP - it sucks that the round gems don't neatly stack up against the curves - if the adhesive is strong enough maybe you could overhang some and grind them flush with the edge?

That bass “stole my love” ;)

Normally I'm not one for bling, but that is a great look for that shaped bass. I hope you get plenty of spotlight to show that off in all it's glory.

Oh, and I also hope you don't spend the next 12 months picking loose rhinestones out of, well, everything.

I didn't mean to imply that the stock pickups didn't get the job done. It's just that when switching basses I had to do more than a little EQ and gain changes on my amps to get the Iceman in the same ballpark as my other main bass, and I prefer to spend that time tuning and/or chugging beer. Used it stock for years, and it always got comments on it's looks and sound.
It really is a sleeper. The neck is wonderful, and for some reason my 3 favorite basses have mahogany bodies. It's so loud unplugged that I don't even use an amp when learning cover songs at my PC.

Ooh, Nice new bass! Looked just like my first bass. Got that back in 2010 for my 10th birthday. Thing was nearly as big as me. Could hold the thing up with just my chin without bending over...

Anyway, looks like yours has a more sensical-ly placed strap peg. Not behind the neck at the bolts...:banghead:

Looked pretty nice before your customization, now it looks unique, fun, and flashy.
(Good thing you didn't use glue and glitter...)

Actually no! I was thinking maybe it would be noticeable but it’s not!
