NBD: Ibanez SR Mezzo 32" scale - review

so I'm guessing your speculation is based on the side views of the blend and treble knobs which are closer to the body whereas the vol and bass knobs are more floatings which the nuts are visible under the knobs?

I've no idea if such potentiometer which doesn't require to be fastened from the outside existed.

I put labella HBB beatle bass Flatwounds on mine, standard gauge fit fine, sound great

I used labella beatle bass flats standard gauge, fit perfectly

It's simply that two knobs on the surface have a visible nut underneath them and the other two do not. Let's not complicate things. Peering into the body cavity, I can't see any nuts because there's a PCB board in the way.

Does anyone know what kind of strings Ibanez puts on these? I've had mine about three weeks, and the strings are disgusting...ordered new ones. I believe this is a great bass for $300, and that's coming from an old goat that's been playing off and on for over 50 years, and I own 8 short scale basses and was interested in this medium scale. Currently my scales range from 30 to 31.5. Custom made to cheap, and even a couple "assembled" by me. I do think I am going to put a passive switch in to test the tone difference. What's in there tone wise is fine, but my curiosity won't let it be.

Replaced strings with DR Sunbeams. Definite improvement (harshness/brittleness decreased) but still wondering on swapping the pickups for, say, a set of Dimarzio ModelPJ (known for their darker/bold tone). I am now recording some tracks with this bass instead of my #1 and it's still striking how comfy this bass is.

Also found a minor place where my previous long scale bass was better (apart from tone, but that bass has been the holy grail of tone for the past 15 years so that's not surprising ;-) ) my band does a couple of drop-D numbers and the 4th string starts feeling a bit too floppy. Not too bad, but it's noticeable.
