I bought one this past November and love it. Nice to look at, nice to play, nice to listen to.Zombie thread resurrect: Has anyone recently bought/played/now using an Ibanez SR1200? I have a chance to buy one. I think I already know it will be fantastic but I'm looking for more feedback, especially people playing them now or have one in their inventory. Thanks!
Mine is a 2011 model per the serial number 02193B. 'B' being 2011 and 02 being February and 193 being the production number. Sometime in 2011 they changed the serial number system to 4 numerals and two letters, one letter at the beginning and one letter at the end

I think the Prestige and Premium line of basses from Ibanez are some of the best mass produced basses out there. Supposedly the Premium line are actually made by Cort for Ibanez. They are made in Indonesia and Cort has a facility in Indonesia, so I believe this to be quite possible. In fact, there are some similarities to the Artisan line of basses made by Cort.
I bought mine used as well. If it was cared for by the PO it is the best way to go IMHO.
Thanks @B-Mac ! I'm excited, after work tonight I'll be making sure it's set up to my needs. Oddly, I learned with the strings upside down. I put on a right handed string nut then flip the strings so the Low E is on bottom! I know I know, lol all wrong. But after 40 years hey, it works for me. The bass is gorgeous but does need some Lemon Pledge rubdown. I can't believe how upscale it looks compared to my other Ibanez basses, and they are nice looking! More to come soon!
Well, it turns out to be a sad ending. The bridge is permanently mounted in a drilled out recess in the body. I can't adjust the intonation. I play my bass left handed strung right handed. Does anyone think that if I didn't adjust the intonation it would sound that bad? I never play above the 12th fret, being an old fart 70's-80's player. The bass is heavier than my SR500 and definitely neck heavy. The action is high because the truss rod needs adjustment.
I'm half tempted to try out the bass even though as you can tell if I put the strings on strung right handed, the intonation will be terribly off. But I've played basses with intonation off before and it didn't seem to matter until you got way high up on the neck.
What say ye TB'ers? Please note that the bridge pieces are permanently mounted in place. This was the biggest surprise to me.

There are screws at the bottom of each saddle that allow you to adjust intonation.

Just an FYI to anyone else considering SR1200's. I bought a used lefty from GC online about two weeks ago. Although beautiful, I found problems with the bass. I play left handed with the strings right handed. If you look closely at the bridge, they use monorails instead of one solid bridge. The mounting of the monorails was staggered from long to short, so I could never compensate the intonation completely, even with the monorails maxed out exactly opposite. Also, there was virtually no height adjustment to bring the low E up a little higher. It went up just a fraction of an inch.
The bass itself was gorgeous, but the overall weight was about 9 pounds or little over. I noticed the body was thicker than my SR500, which is like a racing machine. Along with that the neck was heavy enough that there was neck dive.
I think I got what could be called a "lemon" because I own four other Ibanez basses (not premium) and they are all light and play very well. I'm disappointed with the monorail bridge-- if it had been like a Hipshot or something I could have totally set it up for right handed strings and it would have been correct. As for the weight and neck dive, I'm very surprised, because even my entry level SR100 P-bass clone lefty balanced better than this one.
Ibanez seems to be gearing back on their left handed models-- a look at their website shows only five different models. I'm really sad because this would have been a more of a "boo-teek" bass for me and it didn't work out. I hope those of you who own this bass are having better luck thant I did, and your bass plays well and doesn't neck dive.
I'm still hoping that one day in the near future Ibanez will introduce more higher end lefties for those of us who love the lightweight bodies, hot-rod electronics, and fast necks.

Exactly. There wasn't enough travel in the monorails to properly intonate the strings. Thanks for the suggestion though.
