NBD: Jack Casady 20th-anniversary bass

I had Chromes on the JC Silverburst; I like the Blue steel's better. This bass has so much range, I felt the flats were inhibiting it...
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Rotosound 66 guy, but I've left the stock strings (Dean Markley Blue Steel, I guess?) on the Casady and they sound just fine.
Another note: To my surprise, I've found that on the impedance switch I like the 500 setting best, and I've left the bass set to that. Gives it a nice crunch, but no outright distortion.
I use the 50 setting , real open sound . Mids cuts thru well for me . Just shows how much can be done with these .
They're not Blue Steel's; I changed mine to them on my Silverburst, and have since done so on the 20th Anniversary as well. The stock strings have a red silk winding; the Blue Steel's have none.
Any string with silk on the ball end . The silk rides on the saddle of E and A string. Best to use strings with no silk on ball end . Or just get rid of the silk on the strings . Been a problem with Gibson style bass bridges since forever .

Does anyone know what Jack is using for distortion/overdrive these days? Is is still his Pan O Flex amp or the SWR Overdrive? I see he is using Aguilar amps in this video. Great stuff!

Last time I saw Hot Tuna he was using the Alessandro -Aguilar JC 2x8 and his Pan o flex . Have seen some clips where the Pan o flex is miked up on stage behind other amps .
Lately he has been using a larger Ag rig . I think he changes it up a lot .
Just take the silk off, works great. Guys have been doing that since the 60's . If I'm going to mod the bridge , I would put a Hipshot or a Babicz on it . I'm dumping the stock tuners post haste , going Hipshot ultralights .

That what I did to mine. Hipshot HB6-1/2" Ultralites and a Hipshot bridge - excellent upgrades.
I'll add that I am not a fan of 3 point bridges, but I added that mod-bar to a couple of basses that had them and
IMO it was a positive mod. Not only did it keep the silk off the bridge, I feel it benefited the sustain.

Got my Epiphone 20th anniversary Jack Casady Bass today. After checking it out with my ever so critical eye, the first thing I did was remove the " Hand Crafted in China sticker. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the quality and sound playing through my Aguilar rig
Very nice. I have been thinking about adding a hipshot bridge, but I would get the chrome rather than black. You have gone in a good direction simplifying to red and black.
