NBD: Jack Casady 20th-anniversary bass

Also, what exactly does "limited" mean? I guess manufacturers never say exactly how many they're producing in cases like this, but is it 1,000? 50,000? It's notable that Amazon and GC don't seem to carry these, though.

My silver burst limited edition was restricted to a run of 500. That's in addition to the normal production run for that year. There's nothing different besides the color and the headstock decal declaring it 'custom shop'. So, I'm assuming it will be the same for the 20th. anniversary

Now the search for strings starts . Put DR Pure Blues on it right away and did a good set up . Still need to try some tapewounds and flats just for good measure .

Bass like that I think I'd have to try flats. The only tapes I'd try are Rotos, as most of them sound like roundwounds covered with tape, and Rotos sound more dark to me. I'll bet Dunlop flats would kill on it. Or maybe LaBellas. Or even Chromes. Chromes get much maligned on here by some, but once they go dead, I like them pretty well.

I have always used Labellas for flats . Will see how they work on this . Although these DR's are getting better as they get a little dead . So they might work great .

Dean Markley Blue steels are great. If you don't mind spending a bit more, check out Thomastik Infeld Powerbass strings.

Really love Epiphones, favourite brand. I have 2 Thunderbirds, and a Viola Bass that I always use at any major gig, plus about 5 other Epi instruments. The Jack Casady is one of those basses that I quite like, but haven't got one yet. Probably will get one, but my favourite colour was the one that got away, the Limited Ed. White. Loved it, but didn't take the plunge. Wish I did though. I really want a semi-hollow looking bass, but don't wanna branch out from the brand. This seems the best choice.

The only one apart from this Epi that I don't have that's been in production for a while apart from the Tobias series are the EB-0/EB-3. Sort of interested, but not overboard.

I love the red and the blue! Great buy. I understand your initial debate about keeping it.

I have a white 2014 MIK and had initial quality issues with it, but the local tech guy at the shop I bought it put together solid.

It's taken a while to really love it just because I'm not the right body style for it. Short body, tall stomach, short arms and tiny fingers. There is nothing wrong with how it plays and the sounds available are awesome. I decided it was me and not the bass and kept it and played the poopie out of it for about three months. Now I love it.

Dean Markley's stay bright too long for me . They used to give me strings for years . I gave them to my friends . The tension on Thomastik Infeld's is low . They seem very loose...lol
Been using mainly D'Addario nickel . That's why tried the DR's , I'm sure I'll find something I dig . Depends on gig also .

Both hollow, same pickups, though the larger body would give some tonal differences. I do like it though, and I may get one in the future . So many basses, it's like walking though a candy store (or a sweet shop if you're in the UK)

I have both, they sound very similar. The neck on the AW is a little bigger. The Viola can get a little more bite or treble out of the bridge pickup but that's about it. The AW is a great bass.

Arrived a few days ago. Honestly I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep it (I need to play it some more), but it's nice-looking, and I may have been lucky to get one because the number that were made seems to be limited.

The extra-long strap is nice. The bass needs to sit a bit lower like a Thunderbird.

I'm thinking now about what my final strings will be. I'm contemplating DR Red Devils as I like the Black Beauties on my Thunderbird

I'm using the Dean Markley Blue Steel's that Mr Casady has recommended. 45 - 100's, have really good presence and response throughout the range of tones on this bass. That's what I would suggest.
