The SX basses are amazing for the money. I have owned a few SX basses over the years. Both a P and a J. Both from Craigslist for I think $35 bucks each. Each bass sounded EXACTLY like real deal.
Probably the BEST deal for the dollar BESIDES any classic Peavey USA bass.

Please don't cover that beautiful grain. I've never really thought the SXs looked good until i saw yours. Whatever you do, please don't paint all over that beautiful piece of wood. Stain, maybe, but don't cover it up!

I do love Rondo instruments, but I think the SX ash Js are some of the best values on the site. I have Link Removed, except I think it was an Andromeda which is a one piece ash, and it's exactly what you want in a J bass. Sounds exactly right. Heavy thing but it's so nice.
My wife has Link Removed, and maybe Link Removed. Only $500. Pro-tip: get the top of the line models from Rondo, and you'll be very happy indeed.

Oddly enough, a client just gave me this... Any SX owners familiar? I can't find anything like this on the Rondo website...
They don't have every model at all times, and some models come and go.
I finally got home and got to actually plug it in.
But first, I put it on the bench and adjusted the saddle heights now that my truss rod tweak from yesterday had time to settle in. I dropped all the saddles down quite a bit and DANG!! It has taken an action that is as low as any other bass I have! And that's just with a first pass and no fret leveling at all! I am really, REALLY impressed!
Things I am not impressed with:
- If I solo either pickup, the hum is LOUD. But, there is very little hum with them both dimed.
- The stock bridge saddles kinda suck. I'm not sure exactly what the issue is yet, but several of them won't drop down evenly. I back the height adjustment screw on one side out so there's clear air under it and the saddle doesn't turn on the intonation screw and level out so that both height adjustment screws are touching the base plate.
And that's about it!
The stock pickups sound decent. I'm replacing them with the Aguilars anyway, when they come, but the stock ones will do just fine in the meantime. And I expect them to sound a fair bit better once I shield everything and put the East J-Retro in. The J-Retro is sitting right here next to me as I type, so that may be a project for tomorrow.
And I note that, so far, I've just been playing it with the stock strings, which everyone says suck. My new Kalium stainless strings are also sitting here, so they'll go on soon, too.
And, I weighed it - two different ways. On the digital bathroom scale by itself, and then I did the me w/bass minus just me method. Both ways came out the same and it's only 10.5#! My earlier estimate was totally off - which is awesome!

OK, if you have issues with basswood, you might not want one... but if not, they are a great deal.
