I do admit to being a bit of an Ed fanboy, and consider him a good friend. In fact, I sent him this pic showing my L1000 hanging out with the Azola Ampeg Baby Bass I bought from Ed.
My BG wunkay….love it,but the color can be hard to get right in photos.
Love the Matcha green too!
Congrats to the OP, the L-1000 is the perfect P bass for me.
I wish they would make the Kiloton (which I thought was one of Leo’s last great designs produced)
without a pickguard or control plate, too.
Yes it was part of a limited run of monkey pod (aka east Indian walnut). It's wonderfully light at 7.8 lbs and as easy on the ears as eyes.

Knocking a later model L1000 because it isn’t related to Leo is the very definition of missing the forest for the trees.
Talk about missing the big picture for focus on the individual elements out of context. I wasn’t knocking the bass. I was knocking the OP’s ignorance of his supposed “hero.” It wasn’t, “Your bass sucks.” It was, “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Without Leo, there would be no L-1000.
Period.
Even if he did, I couldn't care less, he's wrong and his posts are bad form in a NBD thread.
My 1980 fretless @ 8.3lbs (with Ultralights). Currently strung with EB Cobalt flats. To the grave.

That's a beauty! I am normally a roundwound player (yes, even on fretless!), but I really do like those Cobalts.

I have rounds on most everything as well and as much as I like the Cobalts, may go back to rounds here. I have TI's on my Lynx fretless (those pups have a ton of high end) and rounds on the other G&L fretless basses. I prefer the L-series pickup without a pre in the loop. Sold both my new & old L-2000 fretless basses last month.
The L1K and 1st gen SB single coil MFD are just pure gold.
