NBD Maruszczyk Jake 5 P/M

Ordered this in April, their regular White looked a little to bright so I took a chance with Vintage White, and happily they nailed it. Great weight as well at 8.8 lbs. I play MM's and G&L so I ordered it with a 17mm bridge and 45mm nut. They also do a 50 mm nut and 19mm bridge.
Active/Passive Delano pickups and a Glockenklang 2band, the treble knob is a tone control in passive and it has a mini switch for the bridge pickup giving parallel hum bucker/ single coil and series.
The neck is killer similar to my MM 5 string Big Al. I got it from their US dealer Dan Lenard of
Luthiers Access Group who is great to deal with. Surprisingly even with these large magnets, the P pickup nails a great P tone especially in Passive so it has a lot of tonal versatility. Real happy with it.

Thanks, yeah the humbucker with the mini three way adds a lot more tonal options, I'm really glad I took a shot with Maruszczyk, the only minor possible issue would be the stock tuners, they work fine but I should have ordered optional Hipshot.
The finish and playability are excellent, love the neck. Happy Fourth.

Thanks, I'm digging it big time, hard to put down. His basses are still a best kept secret here, they shouldn't be though, he's making a ton of great instruments.

How close can you get to the Stingray tone with the humbucker soloed?

I haven't been thinking of that but the model in mine is pitched as an MM replacement on Delano MC FE Dual Coil Series MusicMan Bass - BestBassGear but they just say MM basses, probably more for the size than the same tone. The MC5FE I have is also ceramic so I'll compare it to my Sterling with mine in series, Active and set flat so both are set the same and let you know. They do make an Alnico version as well. The pre amp is way different on this bass also so that has to be a big consideration. to be continued tomorrow evening

Dr. Cheese my answer would be pretty close, my comparison was with the Jake and my Sterling with similarities being both have 9 volt pre amps and that both have Ceramic pickups. With everything flat on my Mesa Subway and both basses the Jake got a tone that was close to the Sterling. And that's with totally different voiced pre amps on the basses ( MM 3 band/ Jake 2 band) and the pickup placement. The Sterling pickup is further away from the bridge so no surprise the Jake is a little more mid focused. I would say that Delano has made a good MM type pickup. Maruszczyk is heavy into custom builds so if getting a Ray bridge tone was important I'd recommend having one built with an Alnico pickup and put in the same position from the bridge as a Ray.
