ALRIGHT! I finally got to jam the new MP Jazz V in a band context this afternoon. The bass just rocks. For the most part i kept it with both humbuckers on full and rolled the tone knob back about 25%. It sounded like a juiced up J-Bass with some extra thump behind each note. Impressive.
I played for about 2 hours and the bass began to get a little heavy near the end, i'm REALLY contemplating swapping out the tuners for some thing smaller & lighter. Near the end of the session i kept having to adjust the bass to get the neck up where i like it. HOWEVER, i'm ONLY comparing this to the Brubaker Brute i currently have (light, light bass), not another fender 5 for reference. My Fender 5 was stolen in January but it was heavy too, i think i have just gotten used to a much lighter bass.
Can anyone who has read this thread (i.e. Chef, feel free to chime in here) seen a difference in tone by swapping from elephant ear tuners to the closed-back style? I do know there are tonal differences that can take place when you swap out a bridge. I'm just not sure if the tuners have the same effect. Maybe this is worth its own thread....
