NBD!!! Modern Player Jazz V!!!

The tuners will only make a few ounces worth of difference; which in an 11.5lbs bass is fairly negligible...

Hmm. Thanks! Maybe it's that i've just been playing such a lighter instrument that i'm gonna need a few good jams to get adjusted.

It was at about the 2-hour mark that i even noticed anything. If its not worth it to spend the money to lighten it up a few ounces then i'll move on. No biggie either way.

The 4 string model I have balances perfectly, and after a few long practises and two gigs, I've not once found myself holding the head up as I play. Maybe the extra tuning peg makes the difference? In that case, its possible lightweight ones could change that. It's a fairly expensive mod just for a hunch, though.

So i really think that my shoulder was just way more used to the Brute. After another long session it felt fine.

There is something really quirky but awesome about the controls. I found a really nice sweet spot in both positions 2 & 3.

Front pup both coils/ back pup outer coil or..
Back pup both coils/ front pup outer coil

When you roll the volume back about 25% on the single coil while the other humbucker is on full it really opens up. I can't explain it. It really livens up both of those pickup selections. When both volumes are full in those pickup selections it's got a decent tone. But, for some reason drawing back the volume on either single coil in those settings is magic.

I'm sure Hank Scorpio can vouch for this (see post #10 :p)

Here's my first (ever) Soundcloud recording. I used the MP Jazz V through my Genz Benz STL 900 using the DI out to a little Tascam. Both humbuckers on full with the tone knob back about 25%.

I picked a slap line just to get some idea of how the recording would sound, as this was my first ever.

All comments welcome..

Nice, nice, nice. If this is with tone rolled back 25%, how on earth bright is tone with tone full on? Must be having some ENORMOUS top end.

Yup sounds about right to me! That's just setting that sat nicely in the mix at my first practise with the bass. Will half to try it with full bridge humbucker/75% neck singlecoil next time.

hey guys just wondering if fender 5 string jazz basses fit in fender jazz bass hard cases or do you have to buy a case made especially for 5ers?

Not sure. I'm using a piece of crap universal fit case right now. A good-fitting case is going to be my next purchase. I'm probably going to have to try a few out due to the 4+1 headstock and the massive elephant ear tuners, just to make sure nothing is cramped.

My old Jazz V sat fine in my older Jazz shaped (interior foam) SKB case. However i just realized that was with the 5 inline tuners, i just checked and it does not fit the 4+1. Newer case designs may in fact fit better.

Not really, no more then any other Fender with new super-bright roundwounds. I was popping pretty hard to see what i could get out of the recording. I would say it's extremely "fender-esque", obviously flats and half-rounds would be a duller tone.

Single coil would be brighter yet.

To be honest, the pure single coil setting is rather "tame" compared to the other settings. I'm not sure if it's the fact that there is only one row of exposed pole pieces being engaged (as opposed to a normal jazz bass with 2 poles per string), but it's definitely not as bright or as loud as the other settings.
