I never disliked any MM and this one's pretty as well but if I were to spend that much, I'd probably go custom.

Got a few in mind, obviously not gonna mention. Hell, I'd rather go warmoth. I'm not knocking MM or anyone that buys it, it's just I can't "justify" paying that much for a production bass. Ok, perhaps this particular one is a one-off kinda deal, fine. But run of the mill stingrays and bongos? Nope, sorry.

Isn't that against the rules?

Anyway, I know of local builders (Antonis, Odyssey, K&G), there's Aviator, Halo. If I recall correctly, even Mayones weren't too far off that mark but I'm not 100% on that. I remember getting a quote from a luthier in the Czech republic a few years ago around the 2500 euro mark for a really decked out 6 as well. Custom basses can be had for that money. Even more so on your side of the pond, probably.

I have owned many custom instruments, most of which have been nice, but still keep coming back to the Stingray 5.

They make exceptional instruments. They are the best mass produced factory bass makers of any I have tried.

“Run of the mill” is not something I’d use to describe a stingray, much less a bongo. Yeah i can go warmoth and i can go kiesel or whatever and spec it all out how i want. For less money. Neat. That works for a lot of people and that’s great. But i want a friggin stingray. Or i want a friggin bongo. Simple as that. If the price is right and the quality is right then why not? Who cares where or how it was made?
