Check what's on there. I'm guessing 250K pots.
I ordered some Dunlops online and they worked for me. The is a difference between volume and tone pots so buy appropriately.

And it came with a nice Mono gig bag (wasn't expecting that!)

Action is super low to the point of some minor buzzing, so I'll have to raise it a bit before I can call it perfect, but a brief plug into the amp shows promise. Looking forward to getting to work with this one!

I'll try that, for sure. But it was doing some really funky stuff last night. Depending on how I turned it or slightly pushed it sideways, the tone would "jump" dramatically from mellow/muffled to really zingy with the slightest adjustment, and for a while it inverted the tone knob so full clockwise gave me the most mellow tone and full counter clockwise was zingy (opposite of how it should work). So something is up with it.

That plot thickens on this new bass.... By all accounts; a normal P bass. One pickup. Two knobs. Volume, tone. Right?

Turns out......neither of these knobs actually acts as a volume knob. Turning both impacts the tone ONLY in some weird way.

What in the world kind of wiring is this.......? Anyone?

sounds like one of two things, the wiring is messed up as in perhaps the previous owner tried to re-wire it and didn't solder the wires in the correct place, or one of the pots (probably the volume) is defective. Easy and inexpensive fix. I would pull one of the wiring diagrams online and check it against the wiring on your bass and make sure it's wired correctly first. A replacement pot is something like $4-6.

Turns out, the volume pot was not grounded, and the tone pot was "not normal" (see attached pic). Tech replaced both pots, the cap, and rewired everything. Sounds fantastic, now!

Also, The Bass Shop in Seattle (where I purchased online) was kind enough to refund me the cost of the repairs. Absolutely fantastic customer service and support. Check them out if you need a new bass!

Look like DR Legends to me as well. SIT used to have yellow/gold-ish silks, but I don't know if they still do.

My American Original Jazz is wearing the DR Legends, and I love them.

This is my first set of flats. Not sure if it's the Lollar pickups or the strings (both, I'm sure), but the sound is more "alive" than I expected from a P bass with flats. I can get some great ghost notes and pop from the this setup.
