Hard to tell if the silks are green or yellow, so I would guess either Fender flats or DR Legends

They are a gold color.

My DJ5 is a killer instrument. I don't plan on going back to 4-strings full-time, but this will be a nice change of pace bass that I can break out for sets where I don't need the low B.

That's not just any "high mass bridge", that's a Hipshot A Style bridge. By far my favorite bass bridge. If I could have one on all my basses I would. Seems to have some pretty nice upgrades.

I have a 96' MIM that I rescued a couple years ago. It was nasty when I got it.
Same color but I changed the pickguard and put Fender Original pickups on.
It's one of my favorites!

The pickguard on this one appears to be some kind of aftermarket, all-black (flat tone) one. I might eventually spring for an actual Fender multi-ply guard to replace it. Surely they didn't come with a single layer all-black guard, right?

Mine was that cream color with a white pickguard and it was so ugly. I bought one off of Amazon I'll post a picture.

Congrats - you simply can't go wrong with a pbass in your quiver (especially w flats). Between the DJ and this you're pretty well covered!

I would leave flats on it, some people here feel that a P bass with flats is THE gold standard for bass sound for electric bass, especially La Bella DTBs. I'm not naming any names though.

Yeah, that part is pretty unique. You can see the knot that caused that on both sides of the neck, which slightly concerns me, but it appears really solid. And the grain pattern is really cool. Neck is dead straight.

Played for about 30 mins just now, and aside from the tone pot being super dirty, it sounds pretty nice. I raised the strings a bit with some minor bridge adjustments, and it's playing pretty well all over the neck now. Only thing I noticed was that the G string sounds noticeably more "zingy" than the others. Too close to the pickup?

I think the Lollars must really bring out some "zing" to the flats. It's still an interesting balance between mellow, thumpy, and zingy. The tone knob is key. Very interesting instrument.

Seems like my order of updates will be as follows.
Replace dirty tone pot
Get larger (stock?) strap buttons. The ones on it now are tiny.
Replace pickguard with a real Fender guard
Profit

Yeah, "by 9:00", when you need it, is almost always "right after 9:00"

It's here! Nothing super special, but always fun to have a new bass. This one is completely different than my Lakland DJ5, so it'll be cool to have such a different tonal range.

Lollar pickups
Currently strung with flats
And it came with a nice Mono gig bag (wasn't expecting that!)

Action is super low to the point of some minor buzzing, so I'll have to raise it a bit before I can call it perfect, but a brief plug into the amp shows promise. Looking forward to getting to work with this one!
