I love these. Fender makes silly moves like discontinuing incredible models such as the RB signature models and changing the name of their American vintage models every couple years while changing hardly anything about them.
No, just mimic the wiring on the tone pot. It just switches in a resistor. If you don’t like how much it cuts change the resistor value.

This is one of my favorite Fender basses. These things just KILLED it!!!
This hadn't crossed my mind, but once you said that, I remember wanting one right at the beginning of my playing, which was 20 years ago next month. I want to cry. Where did all the time go???
Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. I'd love to have a Roscoe Beck, but I *do* have a Modern Player Jazz V, which was essentially a rebadged Squier with similar features to the RB - passive, dual coil pups, 5-position switch, etc., except that it had the wheel-type truss rod adjustment at the body like the Elites do now. Fender stopped making those too, although I suspect it might have had something to do with cannibalizing MiM and AmStd sales.
And here I sit with nothing but dust and lint in my wallet...
Fantastic looking bass! Was my favorite 5 string when I was playing out.
Suwheeet! That is a beauty, and looks like it is in wicked shape- comgratulations! I missed one about 12 years ago, and kick myself when I think back to it, could have, should have, but didn't- sonofa.......

Somewhere out there is a CAR RBV with the finish sanded off the arm contour. I sanded it because there was a walnut size chunk there. I want that bass back.
Beautiful! I used to own one just like it (different guard).
I have said it here a lot. It is one of the three pieces of gear I think every bass player should own at least once (the other two being a P bass and a 300W tube SVT).

Don't get overwhelmed by all the choices. Pick a few go-to sounds to start and work out from there.
My initial go-to sounds were neck in single (sort of P bass), both in single (jazz of course) and neck in single with bridge in series (cut like a knife and hit like a hammer). Neck only in parallel does a good mudbucker.

Hands down the best bass Fender made and the only 5 string they got right, IMO. It's honestly the only Fender I'd buy at this point. Congrats on the score!

I have a RB IV in honey burst and its just a fantastic feeling, playing and sounding bass. Switching options are really well thought out and make it easy to get some great non-Jazz Bass type tones once you get the hang of the many options.
Matches my Lull MV4 for playing time since I got it last summer.
