Update - Just played a weekend cover gig with the bass. It was worth the wait, this thing sounds absolutely killer. Can't believe how resonate the bass is. All my other fenders have serious dead spot issues and string balance issues, this one is great up and down the neck.
I have seen some utterly bizarre QC coming out of Fender in the past 6-8 months.
After their major layoffs and trying to get that un____ed in order to make instruments again to get out from under a huge backlog of orders, they are really struggling and shipping a lot of product that grossly shouldn't, the OP being a perfect (?) example.
The upside is that there are a lot of undocumented upgrades, along with wrong-part gaffes like this.
Give any new Fender you buy a very, very thorough going over. 2011 is giving cherry-picking a new meaning.
This is not what I want to hear.....I'm awaiting delivery on my back-ordered '62 RI Precision. It's been a long wait, it better arrive in perfect spec condition!
