NBD: Oops… I did it again! [Olinto love]

I decided a while back to quit beating myself up about it and lean into the joy of new basses. I love playing. I really love playing. But checking out all the different basses is so much fun too!
I've been texting with Lee Nadel, the bassist from Waitress. Turns out, his '63 Precision was the template for the Olinto bass. The thin body is just because his '63 just happened to be thin. The buffalo nickel is because Eric from LaBella just really got into buffalo nickels. Both are great choices that just kind of happened at random... but really made the bass special.
We need permission?Yeah, the thin body was something I had heard Scott Devine talk about on a video with his Olinto. But in person, it feels really nice... has a nice resonance. I'm sure that also helps with weight-reduction. This thing weighs in a little over 8lb. In-hand, it feels even lighter. And it sounds good.
Regarding my declaration of no more basses this year, I can't, for the life of me, think of anything else I want or need. I really do think I'm done til the MTD arrives. If I post another NBD before 12/31/22, you have my permission to make fun of me to your heart's content.

Just last week, it was said that I have a pretty bad case of GAS (‘so bad it would make Dr. Cheese blush’ if I recall… lol). I giggled when I read that because I had just posted an NBD for my new Lull. And I knew what I had coming early this week. So here goes…
Last year, I was attending the Broadway play Waitress, when I heard a bass tone that I couldn’t get out of my head. I snapped a photo of the band and zoomed in to realize the bassist was playing an Olinto precision bass. Turns out, the player was NYC studio player, Lee Nadel. He was a beast and so was his bass.
I immediately contacted Olinto (a division of LaBella). I was told it would take a year, and I was just getting ready to place a deposit on a custom MTD. So I pumped the brakes and used a little self-control.
Fast forward to last week and I see this brand new Olinto bass listed right here in the TB classifieds. Self-control be dammed, I acted quickly and was able to procure this lightweight li’l dude.
It has the thin body (see the photo of it between my Lull and my Sadowsky), the Mas Hino pickup, the highly figured rosewood neck, and the trademark buffalo nickel string retainer. It’s sooooo nice. The action is ridiculously low and it plays like a dream. Best playing p I’ve ever owned… and that’s including the Nash, which is saying something.
I’m declaring it now, this is my last NBD of this year! The rack is full and the only bass I have left is that MTD I ordered, which should be here in early 2023.

I'm usually not a fan of green basses, but that finish does something for me.
"Art of the demo" was my favorite tool when I worked in sales. You can say a lot more with "Here, listen to this" or "Try this out" as opposed to just talking or showing specs. I think that's one of the reasons why "How do I sound like [insert bassist here]?" threads are so prevalent.
To the original point though, very nice looking bass and the thinness of that body is quite intriguing to me. I think it's a very nice-looking bass, but green just isn't my color....so I'm telling myself all they make is green basses so I won't start pricing one out myself. Please do not thrash my coping methods, they are so very fragile as it is

Scott Devine featured this model on his channel. Sounded amazing as do other vids lying around. Got to say I’m a little jealous. Quietly looking for a passive four string (they’ve just started making five). Congratulations!
Hard to compare since the Lull is a 5. But they all do pretty comfortable, thin-C necks. The Olinto is a bit different since it had a flatness to it that feels really nice. It’s hard to describe, but it’s got a really nice feel.
I went back and rewatched that video when this one arrived. Sounded very similar. Seems like they have a consistent process from one bass to the next.
+1 for the thin body. All bases should be this way.

I've owned 3 Nash basses and am 100% a fan. That being said, the Olinto is really something special. They have a PJ on their site right now that's for sale. I'm drooling. I think it's time for me to just turn off the internet.

I’ve owned a couple of similarly priced Fender Custom Shop instruments. This one’s significantly better. So yeah, a little sticker shock, but a much better bass.Learn sumptin' new ever' day!!!
