I was not aware Rosewood neck was an option in the mod shop. fab u lous. I do also like the roasted necks that they show there. I've played with the configurator a few times, but never pulled the trigger.

Sort of, yeah! Had a panic about the tort on the satin but it looks as good as I hoped! And I ordered it at a dealer so they set it up before I got there. Win-win.

My teenage son (a guitarist) saved all his gift money and lawn mowing money and so on for like a year to buy a Mod Shop Strat. I though it was kind of a dubious plan until the thing finally showed up... it's gorgeous and sounds amazing. Never should have doubted him.

Looks like you also got a winner!

I just wish EBMM did a similar thing...

The Mod Shop is a premium over an Am Pro type, but not that much. They are roughly half the cost of a Custom Shop, that's why I went that route. And on the Fender website you can see exactly the cost based on your options. You can order direct from Fender or order through a Fender dealer. If you order at a dealer the price is the same but the store gets a commission.

Looks similar to yours though the satin finish shows some signs of use after 2 years of daily thumping

It’s finally home with me. Fender Precision Mod Shop project bass and it came out EXACTLY how I hoped. Could not be more delighted with how it plays, sounds, looks and feels in my hands.
I pulled the trigger back in November but they already had the scheduling disclaimer that builds would start January 11, so it’s in my arms in only 16 days, not counting the 6 weeks.
I was a little nervous about having this shipped to my door so I ordered it at my favorite local dealer. Same exact cost. But they get a commission so that’s better Karma than online. Huge shout out to Jim at Guitar Resurrection. They did a setup and thorough check out.
Ok. The bass.
Standard alder USA P body.
Solid Rosewood ‘63 C Precision neck.
Tort on Satin Black. Just enough sheen but doesn’t look smudgy! And the tort pops!
Vintage open reverse (surprise!) machines, modern high mass, low profile bridge, same bridge as on the AmPro basses. Oh, ‘58 pickup. It Slams! Neck feels warm and sounds warm and rich. I heard stories about Fender rosewood and fret sprout, the edges are great. If it happens I can take care of it. The stripe is darkened(?) so it doesn’t look weird. And there’s a hootenanny button! Like they read my mind. It’s got rounds, I assume 45-105 Fender. Hey, y’all wanna tell me what flats to get? I’ll make it easy. I have positive relationships with TI Jazz flats, LB DTF, Chromes, and 77s. So hit me.

Been wanting a newer P but wanted it My Way. I am absolutely loving this. I’ll probably go bonkers peeling all the nits from the shrink wrap on the pick guard but first I gotta play more.

It's beautiful and I do LOVE rosewood... but I am still puzzled to WHY ON EARTH Fender is ruining stock of that wood specie, and because it is NOT a wood to make FULL NECKS, even with steel/carbon rods...

Pretty sure a few custom guitar necks aren't going to denude the planet of rosewood trees, and apparently it IS a wood to makes necks from because it's awesome!

Yes, Fender calls it Satin Black. And thanks. I love black and brown anyway, it's a thing.

Super nice! That's first routed Fender headstock I think I've ever seen .

BTW, I got my original L2000 (may it R.I.P.) at Guitarrez in 1999 or 2000, can't remember exactly. They're a great shop with great folks!

In the builder pics it looked like a decal. I like it. But I’ve not seen that either.
And yeah, Guitar Rez are good folks. It’s weird now, you have to knock and they let you in. Covid.
