NBD (parallel universe content)

Came with a reasonable set up, so within an hour I was up and playing. Needs a neck shim, but not in a hurry, just so the saddle screws don't stick up out of the saddles. I'll do that when I make the final decision about strings.

You can get shorter screws, and remain shimless if you like. I get stainless ones from Bolt Depot - have them in various lengths, so I never have to have live with too short or too long saddle screws.

I've been jonesing for one of these since they were announced. I've always liked a slab body, but not digging the single coil pickup of the '51.

Sounds great. Both pickups (CS60's) very usable by themselves, and TERRIFIC together. I've found some PJ's don't do either perfectly, but this one, with just the P on IS a P-bass. The other p/u is just a bonus.
Slab bodies are always heavy. This one is a 10 pounder (my heaviest Fender). Has a serious baseball bat neck. Fit and finish is as good as you'll get from Fender, and not a high fret in the bunch.
A lot of stuff on TB about these being over priced. Hmmm...The edition is done, and I wanted one. Try hard enough and we can justify anything. It's the price of an American Pro+ a night out with my girlfriend.
Strings...I have 2 P-basses with flats, a J with rounds (red devils on candy apple red!), and J with flats....maybe I'll just keep the stock Fender rounds for a while.
Gotta run...my neighbours band asked me to sub on their rehearsal tonite.

EDIT- Tort????

Nice. I'm finding that I do like tort on a blonde finish, especially with chrome hardware and blonde fret board.

I think 50% of everything out there is overpriced but no one's exactly forcing us to pay too much.
I saw one of these yesterday at a store that had the Japanese Midnight P bass and one of the new Jazz basses with the rosewood necks a few weeks ago. Both are gone and I bet this one won't last long.

Congratulations on your new bass! I have been sorely tempted by those ever since I first saw the ad. Hearing how good it sounds and how happy you are with it only makes me consider buying one all the more. I hope you enjoy your gorgeous new bass!!

The reports are true and it is a special instrument. For those of you on the fence, I'd act now. Everything I've heard indicates that they are a very limited run and once gone, they are gone. One could wait for a used one to be available, but I chose not to wait.
