NBD! Peavey Grind BXP for $40

I stopped in a pawn shop on a whim this evening and found this guy for $200. I plugged it in, but the battery was dead. I was putting it back when the sales guy encouraged me to plug it in. I told him I already did, but it was "broken". He checked out out, sure enough - barely any signal (low, almost dead battery). I poked around the store for a little bit more, but stopped on my way out and said I'd like to talk about "that broken bass". I offered him $40, he paused. I asked him how many people he thought would make him an offer on a "broken bass". At least I would take it home and fix it. I Asked if he intended to have it repaired. He thought about it, then said alright and gave it to me for $40 tax and all. I've got a new battery in it now and it's working fine. I almost feel guilty, but business is business I suppose.

Good to know. I also have two solid color T-40s (white and bright red) - also somewhat rare finds.

I really feel like I did. This bass is great! The neck is wide as all heck, but I'm loving slapping on it. The action is nice and it has a nice set up. I'm going to put it through some of my larger amps tomorrow and see what the thing can really do. I'm tempted to try out that new Darkglass preamp module in it, but I'll wait and see what the stock preamp can do first.

My T-40 nut was just a little wider than my old MIM P bass. My guess would be 1-3/4", but I'll have to put it to the calipers when I get home. Kind of fun jumping back and forth between the Peavey and my Ibanez SR which has the thinnest neck I've ever felt.

how weird, I thot these were all CNC identical, never heard of variances. guess I lucked out. I don't mind chunk having grown up with my old Fender BASS V but after getting used to the pencil neck on my semi #1 Peavey Zodiac BXP it takes a bit of adjustment time to settle back in mentally if I grab my Lotus (avatar) which is more standard P width. those Mexican Ps are nice, thicker than my Lotus but I got on with the one I tried, and of course they sound great, classic Fender. still waiting to try any SR, my only Ibby is an '80-ish P with their typical medium neck.

Strange about the T40s.. Do your's have blade pickups? I had a non blade pickup '79 and it had a pretty thin symmetrical neck, it didn't change width the entire run of the neck. Maybe that came with the revamped final run in the early 80s? From what I gathered the only difference were the pickups, I could be wrong though, I've never played one with blade pickups.
