NBD Peavey

I got a Peavey Foundation S today. Serial# dates it to 89. I wasn't really looking for one but was checking GCs used stuff to see what 80s Fender Jazz bass specials were going for. I'll call it a little more than I wanted to spend.
While I was looking, I see this Peavey. I'm thinking it really looks the part. PJ pickups (Schallers), metallic paint, black headstock and it's 1/3 the price.
399 as opposed to 1299. Also comes with a case.
I figure WTH? I order it. Got it today. It's in what I'd call good to very good condition. Its been played alot but obviously taken care of. And the case was the original Peavey chainsaw case. Still has the lining in it too. Thought that was pretty cool as in most Peavey ads I've seen over the years it's gone.
Comfortable to play, sounds great.
Can't believe you can still find these at such good prices. Oh well good for me I guess. Jazz bass special itch is scratched.

the one i owned a while back had the active pickups. one of the pickups died, so i got some used schaller pickups and made the bass passive. rather high build quality on my bass; i suspect yours is the same. very easy to dial in near-perfect action, very easy to play, great tonal range. a real winner!

Congratulations on a great deal.

I’ve been a Peavey Foundation fan since I got one in 1984. Love the neck and the sound.

Great find there and a bargain to boot. Foundation and Dyna basses are still in my mind super "Jazz" or "PJ" basses" that still hold up well in comparison. For those us that know what value and quality those old USA Peavery products really treasure our basses. Even if we may choose to modify or modernize them they are such outstanding instruments.

I also really appreciate those hideous to some chain saw cases, but they really do their job. I once had one take a tumble down a Double flight of fire escape stairs, the bass inside was unscathed and still in tune.

I tried to buy a Foundation S a couple months ago. I don’t need another bass, so my offer and my effort were somewhat lackluster. The owners ad is still up on FB, marked “pending”.

I bought a Foundation new back in 1992. Played it for a good ten years. It was a really good bass. Not flashy, but well made in USA and good tone. The neck never moved in ten years. Not one adjustment.
