NBD - Player Jazz - blueburst

Howdy! After selling my Pbass recently I decided it was time to try something different and after checking out a few different options I found this at my local GC and couldn’t pass up the deal. It was on sale for $650 and the last one they had. The other regular player jazzes were $799. After a quick setup at home, this thing plays so well and I am loving the sounds I can get from it… very growly or smooth and silky. The cherry on top is the fact it weighs about a pound less then the pbass I was playing.

Very nice!! I am not normally a fan of burst finishes, but in some cases like this (dyed and figured laminates) - they look beautiful.

Congrats! You got a great deal on that one. I bought one earlier this year, and I immediately noticed it's pretty light. And I agree: it sounds fantastic and the neck it SO smooth. Play it with pride!

EDIT: This GC model is becoming pretty popular. We might have to start a club! (Just kidding.) :D

I checked out one of these in person and was so tempted to buy it. It's really a nice finish and even though the pics are good, I don't think pics really do it justice. Need to see it in person. Rock on.
Yeah I agree. While some pictures look pretty good, it's when you have it in your hands in the light that you can see more than what a camera can capture. Really beautiful basses.

I played one at a GC as well on Friday night (along with a Dark Night AM Pro II Jazz with a rosewood fingerboard) and the action was sky high.

Part of me wants it, but I would want to negotiate a discount because I am concerned I would not be able to achieve the setup I would desire.
I've been able to get the guys at my local Guitar Center to do some quick adjustments for free. I've told them I'm considering buying a particular instrument, but "I need to know it can be dialed in to a workable condition, so could y'all give it a quick tweak before I make a decision?". If the tech isn't swamped, it's a fair bet he'll do it.

Mind you, I'd have to ask well before he leaves for the day. Also, and most importantly, I never ask unless I'm serious about a possible purchase. If I kept playing that card over and over, I'd eventually wear out my welcome at that store. ;)

Mine needed a slight truss tweek and the actioned lowered a tiny bit. I also adjusted the pickup height to spec and then it was perfect. The intonation was already spot on and it plays wonderfully now.

I find all of this agreeable. If I wanted that much tweaking but was unsure about buying it, I would likely take my chances with an online purchase.

I sampled one of these just as they hit the store by me. It checked all the boxes for a possible purchase…Feel, Looks and Sound. I was very impressed! For better or for worse, I wasn't in the buying vein that day. I would need to liquidate a couple of instruments before I seriously consider another purchase.

Also, if I did grab one, I would want to swap out the neck for a Geddy-style, Squier CV '70s Jazz. To my eyes, the black binding and blocks would tie the whole "look" together.

I absolutely agree on the binding and blocks.
