NBD = PV T40

Plus, I am gonna get so buff, hefting this beeyotch, right?
I used to think mine (I have 2) were heavy. Then I got an Ibanez 6 stringer...

Welcome to the club.

PS: my stage rig when I didn't just DI was a Peavey Mark VI and 15" Black Widow single bass cab. Heavy isn't the word for them.

I had a T-40, a huge Peavey 412 and a Bassman 50 head. I was much stronger in my youth... I invested in a wide leather strap and that helped, a nylon strap felt like my shoulder was being cut off.

Front pup, dime the vol and tone. Bridge pup, dime the vol, drop the tone below "7". You can thank me later.
I like that tone knob just on the knife edge of where it changes everything, just around 7 depending on the individual bass. :) Slight tweak either way makes huge difference to the tone.

Nice score! The humble T-40 is my bass of choice, particularly the toaster pickup models (like the beautiful black/maple ‘79 I just picked up), even over basses costing many times more.

FYI for those of you concerned about weight, the solid colored models are lighter. The natural ones are Ash, and IIRC they picked the wood for the natural ones based on grain pattern, not weight. The solid color ones are poplar and picked for weight since the figuring doesn’t matter.

I’ve owned three T-40s - a white 1980, a natural 1982, and now a black ‘79. Both of the solid ones were significantly lighter than the natural, I believe my black one is 1.5 lbs lighter, just over ten pounds.

It’s never gonna be a light instrument, but they aren’t all boat anchors either!

Congrats!! Probably about 10 years ago I picked this beauty up from a Craigslist ad. I liked it, but soon decided that there was no good reason to lug that anchor around when I had other lighter basses that also sounded good. So I sold it. But when I see pics of it I get nostalgic and wish I hadn't sold it... :banghead:

Peavey T-40 Settings Spreadsheet

I have that printed out and on the wall behind my T-40. It's really amazing how much sonic ground you can cover with the controls. It looks like @oldskoolskatedad has the pickups out of phase, which gets into some REALLY interesting territory - try dime-ing everything, then drop one of the tone knobs to/below 7 and add some reverb, chorus or flanger.

"Squonk" is what I call that "out of phase, tone at 7" setting. :D
