The Rickenbacker 4001 V63 is a vintage reissue of the Model 4001S bass from 1963.
BTW, it sounds amazing!
They were made (according to @PaulBoyer s wonderful book on Rickenbacker basses - pg. 80) from 1984 to 2002. Mine is a 2001.
That is a beautiful Rickenbacker Bass. Very nice. Keep the groove.
$600 for a Lollar horseshoe. Doh! Well....... maybe no horseshoes in my immediate future at least. They sure do look retro-tastic though.
I have a heretical suggestion:
Aceonbass makes very high quality replacement harnesses, including one that allows stereo or mono output through a single jack. If you never run a stereo rig, never mind, just a random thought when I saw the single mono jack. The few times I ran a stereo setup, my 4001 was the Piano of Doom.

I just installed the harness you are talking about on the 4001CS. I may transfer it to the v63. After playing the v63, I'm not 100% certain I'm going to. The sound is mind blowing as it is. The Horseshoe on this is way hot. I lowered it, but it still is super hot. Pure nasty Chris Squire tone. It also has an incredibly flat fretboard. It has extremely low action. The back of the neck, though finished is super fast. The notes at the 20th fret are in perfect pitch and have as much volume / sustain as at the bottom of the neck (on all 4 strings). This is a studio quality bass. Now I just have to convince myself that it's actually mine. Maybe putting in all that time on my 4001CS really did pay off. This is my dream, come true. Wow.
Looks identical to my 98 Fireglo 4001v63. I replaced the harness in mine with one of Dane's (aceonbass) harnesses. It really brought the bass to life. You might want to consider it too.

Thanks for the kind words. I really have no idea what the difference in sound between the 1" and 1/2" toaster position would be. Both my Rickenbackers have the 1/2" position, so I have nothing to compare them to.
