Congratulations! Absolutely beautiful. Green with envy here. Maybe someday... but for now, I don't even put 'em on my GAS list; they're a level beyond that.

Thank you! This is actually the first bass I paid more than $1k for, in 35 years of playing (though I inherited one worth above a grand). I understand it aint easy, and I would not have bought one new or, god forbid, a NYC, new OR used. I have a phobia about pulling more than a thousand bucks out of savings for anything, but I made an exception here, and only because I had items I figured I could sell to raise the funds (which I did, before buying). I am going to send positive Sadowsky thoughts your way, sir. It's pretty awesome and I wish you the same joy I am getting from it now.

Very nice bass and welcome to the "Sadowsky Experience". I got mine 2 years ago (same color as yours, but the Will Lee model) and agree with your description. You really can't go wrong with any of them. I never was a Maple board guy, but I've seen light.

My wife does not understand the bass buying thing either, and to her, $400 is a lot to spend on one. Fortunately I only use gig money, and gear-sale money, to buy, and even then, I think discretion is the better part of valor (she might think that selling gear is fine, but wouldn't that money be helpful in buying stuff for the house or taking a trip, etc?), so while I know I am not taking money away from other needs doing it this way, it's convenient that the finish on this bass looks a lot like another bass I own. What new bass?

I know, the TB marriage police will tell me I should ask her permission for everything including a net-neutral purchase. I just disagree. Mainly the guys saying this are the ones whose wives always let them do what they ask pernmission for, I think. Plus, it's a tool that I use to MAKE money too, and no plumber asks his wife if he can have a new wrench!

I don't raid the family bank account for purchases, and I was a bass player long before I was a husband, and one thing that was established up front is that I am going to continue to be one and play gigs. I did decline an opportunity to play 300 dates a year internationally that came in a few days after we got married, because I didn't want to be away from her that much, so I consider myself a thoughtful and devoted husband. Heck, we got engaged in Paris because I was doing a short European tour, and she came over to join me there... brownie points for life, I figure. I have a "day job" nowadays. Having 2 kids now, I keep gigging moderate, about 4-5 per month. Makes me a better husband and father to have this outlet, I think.

Anyway, enough rumination on the finer points of marriage and musicianship. Hope you get to experience my current joy in the near future.

I saw the one you bought in the classifieds, terrific bass. And your NBD, with the Spidey dude sitting atop the case. All these postive threads about the Sads kept my titillated. As is often the case, when you're in the market, you notice and look up the solds as well as available ones.

Many of them sell quite fast, in days or maybe a week or two, so I was surprised to see this sit for so long... maybe the 'burst is too plain for some people, but not for me. I was actually initially eying a blue metallic ice MV4 ( a color I had loved since I used to own a Tokai in agave blue long ago), so I put up gear for sale, but it sold... but this one was already of interest to me before the ice blue one came up. It kept growing on me, and when the 2nd piece of gear sold, well, here I am.

Ha! I already did check out your basses on your profile, didn't want to mention it for fear of being seen as TB stalking, lol. That's why I mentioned the Smith, knowing you have one. I didn't mention the Fodera, because I don't have one. .

I am not much of a "New Bass Day" guy, having done one previously.

But, I am extremely enthusiastic about this new (used) bass, so I thought I'd share it, in case anyone is thinking about taking the plunge. It's a Sadowsky Metro MS4. Buying a Metro, and used, made this very affordable for the tone it delivers.

First THANK YOU to Melamel here on TB for selling it to me, and thank you to everyone else for letting this bass go unpurchased for 2 months, which really surprised me. This gave me time to sell two pieces of gear to fund this purchase. I picked it up in person since David is not far from me. Got to play it before finalizing the purchase.

So, this is the first Sadowsky I've played. It's fantastic! Very clear throughout its range, and very even across the board. Love the preamp, it changes the tone in new and interesting ways rotating through the T/B positions. The PU balance knob dials in the reverse direction of what is typical, but an easy adjustment. It's very articulate and I do not have to struggle or strain to get clarity, presence and punch with every note.

Sadowsky owners probably find my enthusiasm cute for something that is old hat to them, no doubt. I have 14 other basses, but only my Smith rivals the quality of this bass. If not for the occasional need for a 5, or a P, or fretless, etc, I could get by with these 2 basses alone for the rest of my life, I think. I've been playing 35 years, only twice before have I been so excited about a new bass- a brand new G&L L-2000 in 1985 which was my first high quality bass and which I played the cr*p out of for years; and the Ken Smith, in 1992, were the other 2.

Ha! You made me laugh. When I was selling my house a few years ago, the buyer's realtor asked if he could buy that floor mat from me, because the buyers liked it so much, and he wanted to give it to them as a house warming gift. I said no. I like that mat too!

Actually no, I just play it straight up. I do like the slightly narrower nut width though.

For example, I do have a build nearing delivery time in the Sadowsky shop. But, we also have a bit of a discussion going on about a Fodera build. We have four kids and two grand children now. As much as I greatly enjoy playing bass and appreciate the fine instruments available, I also know that most of my gigs can be well covered by the Fender Bass I had a long time ago. Going through the Sadowsky preamp, of course.

Part of the thing is that we share the same priorities. And, for us; faith in each other comes first, children and grand children come next; and fortunately, there is also room for a couple of basses. Or, maybe the grand children come first. I get confused.

Anyhow, enjoy that Sadowsky!!

I understand and admire your cooperative spouse and your team-based marriage. Respecting financial boundaries, using good judgment, and respecting your spouse is important. As I do, too. Indeed, I would never take money out of our accounts to buy a bass, or any other major purchase, or even a multi-hundred dollar purchase, without consultation first. In fact, I never do spend any household funds, asking or no, on gear. That's pretty respectful of our household.

But, when selling gear to buy gear, or using leftover gig money that I accumulate and don't spend on gas or household cash incidentals, I don't feel like permission is necessary. And still, we have faith in each other too. I LOL a little, because as I noted before, it's the lucky fellers who get permission to use household funds, who are all about seeking permission. If I had a wife who'd give me permission to get a brand new custom built Sadowsky with household funds, for whom a Fodera build is even a topic for discussion, I'd be asking too! As it is, I limit myself to things things music itself can pay for; so, no Fodera or custom Sadowsky for me, regardless of funding source. Maybe that makes US the ultimate faith-in-each-other couple: I neither spend, nor ask to spend, family funds on basses; and she never says no.

All in good fun. Sounds like you have a wonderful partner in life. And so do I. And so do our wives!

Well, I doubt he'd mind, which is why I posted it without asking... but people's photos are their property as far as I am concerned. I'd take it down without looking askance at him, if he wanted. It IS a great bass.
