NBD: Sandberg Patchwork

Pretty sure it’s a bunch of cut up basses, except the fretboard but maybe they recycled that too.

I've read that too, can you imagine how sharp the saw needs to be to not damage finishes, etc.... The other thing is, you don't see them make 4 basses, so I wonder if they just set aside "damaged" bodies throughout the year and cut the good pieces as it seems they only do about 1 per year.

I can't understand how you'd do that without any mis-alignment at the edges, especially considering different finish thicknesses, glue slippage, etc.

Who would ever have such a crazy idea? Building 4 bodys and keeping only one?

Producing leftovers that are too small to build another body?

They take pieces that are too small to build a complete bass!

And believe me they have enough wood to pick from!

They glue them together like they do with any other bass and put them in their CNC machine.

Which by the way makes several basses at the same time.

Yep! Final body contour (sanding) and paint jobs are just drool (handmade).

You can feel the passion it needs to build them, when you touch a Sandberg!

Then I saw the 5 different tuner finishes...and realized I really like the whole bass.

That's what caught my eye! Real attention to detail for a "Patchwork"!

I really like the one reliced section in the middle of all the others. It must have been a fun challenging project.

I think its super cool! I would love to own something like this if I could afford to have a show piece. I played it at NAMM too, and its a great instrument. After my experience with them at the show this year, and meeting & talking to Holger, the owner, I'm going all in on Sandberg!
