The long long wait it finally over!!!

Exactly 6 months after pre-ordering, this beauty is finally in my hands. Just needed a tuning right out of the box and it was ready to go. Already planning on taking it to a jam tonight. I'm aware Joe Dart is a very...polarizing...player, but he was inspiration to pick up the bass a little over 2 years ago, and I haven't missed a single day of practice yet.

Why is Joe Dart polarizing? Seems like a regular guy to me and great groove player.

Nice - I just got my 2025 SBMM Joe Dart II and I absolutely love it!

I have the ‘24 Sterling Joe Dart as well, which I originally ordered because I figured there might not be another chance to pick up a cheap JD signature, but when they unveiled the Jazz inspired one for 2025 I barely hesitated before preordering.

Now I’m in the process of selling my ‘24 because they are such similar instruments, but I have no regrets, both instruments feel better to play than my MIM Deluxe Jazz.

Joe Dart was not why I started playing bass by a long shot but I did find him really inspiring for getting into more technical bass playing - big fan!

Hmmm, never thought of Joe as a polarizing player. The dude is a monster! Great groove, chops and super funky articulations.
Love him in the "Fearless Flyers" and Vulfpeck (sp?) although Vulfs vocals sometimes are not my thing.
Regardless of age, popularity etc his style is such that somewhere Rocco is smiling and nodding in approval.

BTW, congrats on the new bass. The SBMM line offer a fantastic bang for the buck.

I'd hardly call Joe a one trick pony...


Dude's got plenty of range AND chops and most of the bands he plays in share many of the same players from Vulfpeck and 1 or two from Snarky Puppy and none of them are "shticky". Just dudes having a blast grooving to excellent music. There is a reason Vulfpeck can pull big numbers even in arenas and that's because they put on a good show and have fun doing it, Joe's smile nearly NEVER goes away when he plays though he does get bass face now and again but... we all do. ;) I'd say people are more annoyed seeing Cory Wong EVERYWHERE than seeing Joe smiling and grooving. :laugh:

I mean this light-heartedly, but one could also argue that anyone disparaging random musicians they don't know on the internet might need to grow up between the ears as well. ;)

BTW, Joe also plays with The Ollam, an Irish folk/fusion (?) band and his roll there is definitely hanging back whilst the more traditional Irish elements shine. Really killer band, not something I'd traditionally listen to but following Joe on social media turned me on to them:

My buddy is a guitarist and picked up the SBMM Joe Dart bass to just have something sitting around and it's a solid instrument. Congrats on the new bass!

I like that knob, I've been using it on pedals for years. It's also available in black, maroon, red, blue and red ;)
There are cheap, unrefined versions and expensive, polished versions. No idea which one they use. I just hope it matches the white shade of the pickup cover!

I chuckle when I think about what Jack Stratton said when this bass was introduced and folks questioned why it had just one knob.

Jack got ornery. "Don't give me any BS that this bass is not ver-sa-tyle. The problem is - YOU'RE not ver-sa-tyle!"

I might swap out the white pickup cover and knob myself, maybe put on a pickguard with double stick tape (if it's a polyester finish).

But otherwise, cool bass. I remember wiring a bass for single knob / volume only and I enjoyed the signal it produced.

But I was running it through an outboard preamp pedal so I had options.

Does anyone know if Joe bypassed the tone knob on his old Jazz before getting his EBMM sig model?

Pretty sure his Jazz had stock wiring
