I was in Guitar Center last Friday and spotted this beauty. It is a 2012. I am the third owner. The previous two were not players but collectors. Both left the case candy intact, so I feel obligated to do so as well. But I doubt I will ever part with this bass. It is one of those that it takes about 30 seconds to realize this is a serious player. Action is smooth. Sting volume is consistent accross all string and along the entire neck and no dead spots. A true joy to play. It came with the original white pickguard, but it left the store with a very nice tort guard that I took off the standard P I traded it on it. It also left with a new set of DR Chromes as well. The flamed maple top and fretboard are really pretty. It will make it even harder not to stare at it while I play. She weighs in at 8 lbs. 12 oz. A bit on the heavy side for a P, but I guess the maple top will own that weight and it is worth it for the look.

Thanks, Already do. I was on one of those "I'm not buying anything, just seeing if there is anything I can't live without." trips and hoping I didn't find anything because I've alread spent too much this month. And then --- this. It jumped off the wall into my hands and I started playing it. I told the sales guy he was going to have to rip it from my hands and thow me out of the store to get it back. I didn't have the money available, so they let me put a $200 deposit. Wednesday, I took 3 guns I haven't shot in almost 3 years and sold them to raise the money I needed. I went back and picked it up. In the trade negotiatians, I got them to throw in a setup and a pickguard swap. The tech said it was an excellent bass and that I had the same look on my face when I tried it out as about 6 before had when they tried it. I told him, "Yes, but I'm the one taking her home."
The name America Jane comes from a yacht I used to see when I was racing sailboats in Houston in the 80s. It was a beautiful racing yahct. I don't remember the maker, but it was one of the prettiest boats I ever saw. And I like the way the name sounds. Funny part is, this is the first bass in 51 years of playing that I have given a name.

That is very cool.

I truly believe that these are special instruments. I own ten other really nice basses including two 60th Anniversary Precisions, a vintage Telecaster, a Stingray and a brand new walnut Rickenbacker. If tomorrow I could only have one bass it would be the Select. The way it sounds, feels and looks make it THE one.
