8 3/4 pounds isn't really all that bad, on the light side, in my experience. (Then again, I've only ever spent a lot of time on 2 actual Fender Ps: the '54 I learned on, and the '95 Deluxe I still have, but both were/are way heavier than that.)

9lbs would be about average, IMO. Most Americans are around that, if not a bit lower.

It is referred to as a "Fender Select" pickup, so I doubt it. It is very quiet and sounds like you would expect a P to sound with flats on.
It is called an A string retainer. It is stock on the Select. It does for the A what the string tree does for D and G.
The sound and feel are what drove me to get it. It was one of those found my true love moments.way to go, Dav!!!
i am not a flame top kind of guy and sort of forced myself to try the Select jbass. it blew my mind! the playability & tone were comparable to a much more expensive instrument, imo. it felt better than the CS jbass that i was coveting.
