NBD (short scale) modded Bronco

So i found a Bronco for dirt cheap online and just had to grab it for the price... and that I love SS basses now. Quick question though. Did they put out two different lines? I got the red version but it doesn't look like the newer ones online right now. The red is a nicer less toy looking red, it has a black pick guard and the fender clover type tuners. The person I bought it off said it came like that new when they bought it. Anyways 2 less things I have to upgrade lol. I do have a new pick up on route to test out though.

Ok so I've been playing the Bronco most of the afternoon and I must say I'm pretty impressed. The tone is actually pretty good out of the stock pick up. I ordered a hot rails pick up before I even got the bass so I will put that in when it arrives. I love the neck on this thing! Body shape is nice as well and I'm glad it has a decent set of tuners in it already. Got a show coming up in a couple weeks and I think I'm going to bring the Bronco and the Junior Jet.

Yeah once I got it home and got to take a closer look at it I found it was some type of stick on covering they did. They did a really good job though and I like it. It's almost like a smoother version of spray in bed liner. I ran the serial number and it's a 2007 so I'm guessing these weren't the original owners as they stated they never used it. So the tuners were probably replaced at some point because I haven't been able to find anything showing a stock bronco with clover tuners.

Well I got the hot rail pickup in today and I wasn't really floored by it. I didn't find it much better than the stock pick up. So I decided to go in another direction. I pulled a PU out of my parts drawer from an old 70s P bass and I am in love with the sound. It looks pretty good sitting in the Bronco as well. The bass itself was kinda shiny for me so I took a scotch brite pad to it and accentuated some of the wear and beat it up a little so it felt broke in like my main bass. Now it feels like mine and in love with this super light weight bass.

Looks great, I just got a Bronco body and neck today, included the stock pickup, controls and tuners.

I had one of those Gretsch's too. I liked the sound a lot better than I liked the bass, so that one's moved on.

I have a couple options to pursue on this. I have a Musicmaster body and pickguard too.

I'm not real hip on the color of either one so thinking of going into BRIGHT yellow or sonic blue, just have to decide which body to sand and paint. The red Bronco body has some dings that would have to be filled but the blue Musicmaster body was painted and clear coated at an auto shop so I think that sanding that may be harder work.....decisions, decisions.

Just looking at everyone else's for ideas, especially if you changed the bridge, what did you use?

The bridge is actually the only thing on the Bronco I didn't change out. I ended up putting in a 2 band EQ out of a '78 music man and that really brought the double coil PU alive. Just waiting on a 3rd matching volume knob and a new pick up ring. Let me know what you end up going with for your mod!
