I play frequent gigs, long gigs, and gigs on cramped stages, plus I am lazy, so I like the idea of using small and light gear.
Tried a Danelectro Hodad bass. Looks cool, tons of compliments. The tones were punchy but too far from typical Fender-ish tones for me.
Tried a Squier Mustang bass. Fun bass, but I realized just the one pickup did not give me enough tonal options.
Last week I got a Fender Mustang PJ bass (CME limited edition) here on TalkBass, and it's great. Search my history if you want to see the sale thread. The prior owner upgraded just about everything on it, and I just swapped the pickguard because I don't like tort.
Played back-to-back 4-hour gigs on Friday and Saturday with it. Shoulder feels great, I only whacked the singer with the headstock once, and the tones were just what I wanted. So I'm thrilled to have a light, small bass that checks all the boxes for me.
