NBD - Sire V5

I am afraid to ask and that $80 has sort put me off the thing..it will be basically $900 with exchange, mark-up and taxes for a bass listed as $500 on their site...

I think some retailers have some of the once rare Sires in stock now. I was looking at the P5 today and multiple retailers had them in stock on Reverb and through their websites. I even messaged some to make sure they were in stock and they are available.

I'm not sure about the D5 and V5, though.

Didn't have a ton of time to play it. But I like what I hear... though I felt that the presence and articulation on the e string isn't as strong as it might be, particularly from the neck pickup... I'll tinker with raising the pickup a bit tomorrow. Tweaking the preamp on my GK helped (particularly the boost)... I might just need to do some dialing in.

Setup is pretty much right on... need to adjust the intonation a bit on the e. Relief is good, action is good. The strings are spaced a bit unevenly at the bridge, but that's easily fixed.

Is it a trick of the light / image or is the string spacing between A and D bigger at the bridge than E-A / D-G.

I had been watching it for a few weeks at Sweetwater, CME, Thomann, etc., and they came in stock at Thomann in Germany in both Sunburst and Natural (but still out of stock everywhere in the states that I looked).

They still show both t he D5 and the P5 as coming into stock in 6-8 weeks.

It's not a trick of the light, or of the cell phone lens. As I said in my OP, the spacing is off at the bridge, and the A and D are further apart than they should be. But, it has those ridged saddles, so, when I have a moment later tonight or tomorrow, I can just loosen the strings, and move them over so they're properly spaced.

Well, had to give it a shot. I think it looks ok, but I think it looks better with the pickguard in place, the holes bug me a bit. I think I might like a black pearloid or vintage white pearloid on there:

I have a hard time with the control plate being there by itself. But I think pearloid pickguard would look pretty killer. As an example -

About a month in... I haven't changed the strings yet... but the E string definitely sounds better than it did initially. A few days after I got it, I worked on seating it a bit better, pushed down above the nut and below the bridge, dialed in the intonation (it was just a tiny bit off), and raised the action just a tiny bit to increase the tension. I also found that I like the tone best with a bit more neck pickup than bridge. With those adjustments, my complaints about the presence and balance of the E string are gone. Really enjoying it.

I've owned a number of cheap basses (SX J and P, Ibanez Gio) and a not cheap bass (German made Warwick Corvette), and a bunch of cheap electric guitars (we'll keep the acoustics out of this)... this FEELS better than all of those. I mean, decidedly different animal than the long gone Warwick, which is the most "premium" electric instrument that I've ever owned... but this feels better in many ways, really feels like a premium instrument. Never owned any high end electric guitars, and I know it's apples and oranges, but the only other electric instrument that I own (or have owned) that is close is my MIJ Fender Strat (E series, made at FujiGen). The necks are about comparable, but the finish on the Sire body is nicer.

Does anyone know of a case specifically from Sweetwater that would hold a 5-string Sire V5 super snugly?
So many cases I've used for other guitars have a bit of wiggle room inside the case. I'm buying a V5 from Sweetwater and I feel like the base would actually be safer in tight styrofoam packaging than in a case with a bit of wiggle room
